This is totally awful. Sure, it would probably become a /b/ rallying point, but it's not often that GameFAQs gets an entry with that type of legitimate joke power. This really could be the second coming of L-Block, only more awesome because these are actually characters.

Come on. Who's he worried about it tweaking? All of the "contests are serious business" folks are right here on Board 8, and we all seem to be behind the nomination. I wonder what type of reverse psychology would have to be employed to convince 4chan to bring their rallying to the nomination phase; it might be the best option if they agree that this is awesome.

Not that it will matter in the end, because there still isn't any proof that 4chan has ever really meaningfully affected a GameFAQs Contest Battle. First-round second-place finishers in the lol4ways, sure, but L-Block was a collective effort by the whole internet.

Perhaps, but we all agree that by the end, it was far beyond their scope. I'll grant that maybe they helped out for Round 3, though, and maybe Round 2. Round 1 was lucky placement, and Round 2 had SFF between the two characters that were knocked out.

I think an underrated value of these joke characters is making a bracket. You can either take a gamble and have a joke character go far, or go out round 1, and that can separate the good brackets from the bad ones. As it is, we'll just have cookie cutter brackets if not for joke characters

Albion and Bosco are right. If we don't get the "jokes", we get a bunch of fodder instead. Yeah, people might be happy to see their favorite fodder get in, but guess what? People love seeing their favorite "jokes" get in - and probably much moreso than the people happy about their fodder since there's a much bigger communal celebration aspect to it.

The "jokes" pretty much also have an infinitely higher chance to do well in the contest. If a fodder character wins a round, they won against fodder that's worse than them. But, well, L-Block, etc, etc, etc

Plus, really, "joke character" is horribly arbitrary. Is Captain Qwark a joke character? What about Doc Louis? Epona? Tingle? It just comes down to Goose choosing who he doesn't want in, as opposed to, you know, having some f***ing user NOMINATIONS.

And that makes zero sense. The L Block contest had the best votes of any contest and was the most enjoyable. The whole point of these contests is to draw hits, yet he wants to avoid the things that draw the most hits? No wonder Gamefaqs is dying as a site.

You know, I actually was considering Master Hand/Tabuu as one of my nominations, though I decided not to do it. Of course, a lot of the planned backstory in the Subspace Emissary got cut, so Master Hand's appearance in there amounts to a mere cameo.

The idea of a character whose only previous appearance was in the Villains Contest coming back in the "Protagonist" role in a rivalry contest seems pretty awesome, though. And in that backstory, Master Hand was attempting to save Subspace from Tabuu, only Tabuu won and Master Hand became his puppet. So that would totally work. And Master Hand still did appear in the game, even though the information that determines why this is a valid rivalry is from supplementary materials.

If you can look me straight in the eye and tell me that the rivalry presented in SUAJG and only that game, not considering any other factor, is a less worthy rivalry than all of the absolutely generic and asinine s*** that is going to get into the contest then you are a liar.

Yes, they would have gotten outside votes based on other factors, but why should that matter? Everything does. Vivi isn't a midcarder because FF9 is strong game.

Master Hand was not a joke character! Nobody at the time implied they were voting for it because "lol it's a glove. They were voting because they really liked Smash Bros. That was the consensus at the time, and It's just revisionist history to claim otherwise.

The point here is that Bacon is clearly trying to argue semantics when he had no issues with bending the rules to allow puzzle pieces into a character battle. It's like he's okay with one type of joke, but not another, and he ultimately decides what makes the bracket, stifling our creativity.
