From: SmartMuffin | #010 These are Communists and anarchists who want to destroy capitalism and overthrow the united states government. Also, they're liars.
"Everyone who varies from me politically, according to Smuffin."
I'm pretty sure these people have more in common with SmartMuffin then Obama or any Republican candidate aside from Ron Paul.
But this is SmartMuffin.

Their message is pretty damn clear IMO. They want the rich, upper elite echelon of this country to pull their heads out of their asses and start giving a damn about something more than just their own personal interests. No where in their message have they even said anything about "WE NEED SOCIALISM" or anything remotely to that effect. Here's some good examples of what they're trying to get across
I think it's admirable SOMEBODY is finally standing up and addressing the real economic issues this country has had for decades. But of course, New York Times, CNN, ABC, and several other mainstream media outlets are going to downplay all of this as just "a bunch of hippies *****ing" because they don't have the balls to actually CONSIDER the points these people are raising.

this isn't actually going to accomplish anything. the upper class in this country are greedy, conceited, and exploiting the lower class in every way possible, but obviously people that would do that kind of thing aren't going to be persuaded by something like that. the fact is that this is the natural life cycle of an empire, greed and politics eventually destroys it from within and there is nothing you can do to stop that.
If anyone ever makes a point, a news organization hijacks it in the name of the political party they're biased towards so that the point is completely lost. That's how things work.
And people are just supposed to accept that proverbial crock of **** being shoved down our throats and move on with our lives? No wonder these guys are so pissed if that's "the norm", that's all I'm saying.
And people are just supposed to accept that proverbial crock of **** being shoved down our throats and move on with our lives?
standing up for yourself is one thing but this isn't doing so in any meaningful way, the people involved don't have a conscience so protesting is pointless, it's not like they're unaware of what they're doing anyway.
What about the uprising and revolution caused in Egypt? The people in charge there ALSO didn't have a conscience, but the masses sure as hell got what they wanted. This is by no means anywhere NEAR that at this current point in time, but it's definitely heading towards the right track in my estimation. I see your point, but that's no reason to simply give in.
Also, I don't have a conscience but I can and do still learn from my mistakes when people tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'll bet my account that all of Wall Street isn't going to just realize that they're doing things wrong and have a change of heart, but let's avoid being mean to people with disabilities in portraying that idea.
I saw a picture on tumblr of some trend website where #occupywallstreet was trending all over the world except for the United States and people were crying out that those damned crooked politicians were censoring their cause.
Turns out the idiots just didn't check the options that show trends on a local scale, because it's all over the US. <_<
Not a very good first impression of these 'protesters'.

What exactly are they hoping to accomplish? Their goals are too overarching and vague. "Economic reform"? Like what? It's like they're just mad at rich people for being rich. I mean, I am too, but what are we supposed to do about it? And how is sitting around wall street going to do anything?
These are all kids who are in college thanks to their parents trust funds, playing on their macbooks and listening to their ipods while complaining about "corporate greed." Way to go guys! Maybe next time you can just VOTE IN SOME NON-PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS or something.
Michael Rodriguez, a 24-year-old from the Bronx, started a conversation with a reporter by asking: "Are you a naked short-seller?" He went on to explain his concerns about the practice, which involves an investor selling a stock shortbetting its price will fallwithout having borrowed the shares in advance. He had learned about the practice two days ago from a passerby and had been researching it since.

SmartMuffin posted... I can see how you might find the facts to be distasteful as they do not reflect well on you or your cause. Oh well!
Taking one ignorant part of a collective and portraying them as the face of said collective is pretty ****ing commonplace, and shouldn't reflect on all these protestors.

How about the video of the guy whining about how Chase foreclosed on his parents house?
That they ended up proving was 100% lying.

Ah, but I don't go around calling them communists who wish to destroy our country. There's a difference between disagreement and hysterical hyperbole.
Some of them are. Did you catch the audio of Cornell West? The man is openly calling for violent overthrow of the United States Government. This rally was organized by union officials who have also called for riots and violence. There are plenty of Communists in attendance who will happily admit to wishing to destroy our country.
I'm sure some of the audience are also reasonable people who just want to end naked short-selling, which is a completely reasonable position. But those people should know who they are standing next to.

I literally JUST finished listening to the Cornell West audio about an hour ago, and NOWHERE did he say anything about violence or overthrowing the government. Everything in his 5 or so minute speech was a very positive message encouraging everyone there to keep going forward. Where are you even getting this information from?
OmarsComin posted... I'm sure you'll keep that in mind the next time you analyze a GOP debate or tea party rally :)
I was gonna say! "Next time someone calls every Tea Party member an idiot racist you can't complain!"
Except racism and bigotry is pretty much what the tea party stands for. There is nothing redeeming to such movements, while with the wall street occupations there are many communiques and accounts of what's happening available, and to find and circulate one slightly embarassing thing that one person in there does takes a conscious effort and is a derail.
Whereas with the tea party you can rest assured that everyone in a protest about immigrants taking all the jobs holds that general viewpoint or at the very least doesn't deviate from it significantly enough to distance themselves from those people.
economic equality is a terrible idea for one 2. what solutions do they propose to fix the economy 3. I think part of the biggest problem is all the credit people get?

They don't even know what they're fighting for. Just ignorant youth with nothing better to do. That's all it is. Of course the leaders of it are doing it to tear down capitalism, but the hippies out there don't know that.
