Number of people who own it is rather irrelevant - if all 3 users behaved similarly in general, then the averages should be relatively similar for all 3. Linux has a much higher average, so I think it's safe to assume that the 3 different kinds of users don't behave all that similarly when buying games!

You know what I always thought would be fun? If everyone who owned this game posted there screen names and we had like a B8 Frozen Synapse tournament. Could be fun if it was all organized and had a bracket and everyone who signed up participated. Just a thought I had, been so long since I played the game, and I know it's good fun, I just need a reason to play it again I guess.

Yeah good game. There is a type of game where there is no turn limit, I forget what it's called though. I usually play the 8 turn style.

Basically, it's like a RTS split up into 5~ second intervals. You have a squad and you have to order them around the battle field, 5 seconds at a time. You plan out that five seconds, telling each soldier to run around, duck into cover, fire grenades, etc, but you can't see what your opponent will be doing during those five seconds. They will be planning their own moves at the same time.

Once both players commit to their actions, the five seconds actually plays out; if you told a guy to run through an open area and an enemy is covering that area, your guy's gonna die. If you fired a grenade into an empty building, and an enemy ran into it, they get asploded. Once you see how that five seconds played out, the process repeats until one side wins.

from what i saw of a guy playing the game, you can also run simulations before committing to a course of action. you can then see how effective your strategy might be should the best or worst results happen. though, the enemy will undoubtedly move differently than how you simulate their movement. still...it seemed like a nice feature.

Yeah, it's insanely useful. Helped me realize I was going to be walking into enemy fire facing the completely wrong direction quite a few times. >_>

Simulation only runs where last known enemy positions are, but you can compensate for that by telling your guy to stop and fire at anyone he sees or try to run past to cover. You can pretty much make your squad behave exactly like you want to very easily.

Kinda annoying how you have to cancel aim every time if you decide to move on the next turn. I'd rather have to specifically tell a unit to keep looking in that direction if it's not his normal movement direction. I've messed up a few times now thanks to that.

That's why you gotta run simulations and look specifically at each unit. I like that the aim order carries over, makes turn transitions seem more fluid since you're starting exactly where you left off. It demands more control on the micro scale, but eh.
