This bit from the AV Club is a better written plea than I can muster, so I'll post it here
Here’s as good a place as any to make this plea: Watch this show (and Parks & Recreation and Cougar Town and Fringe and…) live. I know you think you don’t count if you don’t have a Nielsen box. And you don’t. Not directly. But the idea behind Nielsens is that other people like you will watch live, will get drawn in. Watch the show. Talk about how you watch it. Talk about what time it’s on. You never know when you’re going to motivate a Nielsen viewer, and that will bump the show’s ratings up a touch. Community’s on a network mired in last place of the big four. This is a network that has other, bigger problems. If we can boost the show’s numbers just enough that it’s one of the network’s lesser problem spots, we’ll have this show for probably years to come. Watch it live. Watch it on Hulu the next day. DVR it if you must but don’t skip the commercials. To save the show will require getting in full-on “save this show” mode early, and even if that makes us annoying, so be it. It’d be worth it to see the series reach at least its most natural end point—the end of a fourth season.

In terms of viewership, Community and Parks were the second and third-least watched shows on NBC last week, ahead of only Free Agents.
In sum, watch them live, have others watch them live, watch them on Hulu the next day, even if you've already seen it. Hell, queue it up on your computer and let it play while you're out.

I havent watched ABC or CBS in over a decade in a half. How is NBC behind them? I've never seen an ad or promo for an ABC or CBS show that didn't make me cringe.
If my roommates watched Community tonight, I'm going to watch it on Hulu sometime tomorrow. If they didn't, I'm going to watch it OnDemand. Will OnDemand do the same thing for ratings as Hulu?
Plenty of good things from ABC. CBS... I'm not really sure. I'm sure there must be some good things, I just can't think of any that aren't The Amazing Race or select seasons of Survivor.

Anyways, Community won't get canceled because it has such a dedicated fanbase, if a small one. It's not unreasonable to think that if Community were canceled before its time, all the Community fans would boycott NBC.
So for every person that watches Community, NBC can count that as a person that doesn't not watch P&R, The Office, etc., which effectively quadruples Community's ratings in a business sense.

I can safely say that if Community gets canceled, I will continue to watch Parks and Rec, 30 Rock and The Office and any other show I enjoy on NBC until I no longer enjoy it. As much as I enjoy Community, fighting back by not supporting other shows I like seems silly. I don't know, maybe I'm just a bad fan or something.

it takes like... no time to marathon a couple seasons of a sitcom. you could get it done in like two days

i occasionally watch these shows live, always dvr them, buy the dvds, and often talk about them to friends. i think i directly influenced 10 or so B8ers to watch P&R
but it doesn't matter because i'm canadian. we don't influence anything. both p&r and community do well enough up here to ensure that a canadian network will simulcast each show, giving a little bit more revenue back to nbc, but it's nothing significant
