LET'S DO THIS OVER 500 EPISODES BACKSTORY ----- I've watched SOME One Piece before. I know what it's about, I know most of the crew members and how they joined. Despite this, I have only watched like, 20 episodes years ago, back when it was in 4Kids' hands. I picked it up again once Funimation got hold, but again, I didn't get far. So I decided to pick it up AGAIN, and see what happens.
I'm going to be watching the Funi dub, and switching over to Subs once those run out. OTHER THINGS ----- I do know some spoilers already. Specifically a few things related to Ace, a few things related to Laboon, and that there is a timeskip (is that considered a spoiler? Dunno)
HOWEVER, I don't know pretty much anything about them other than a few key occurrences, so even though I know a few things, DON'T DIRECTLY SPOIL anything beyond what I've already watched, just to be safe.
ADDENDUM ----- How many episodes are there exactly? And while we're here, I compare all "long running anime" to Dragon Ball so how many episodes did that have? Including DBZ of course, (And DBGT? Is that included? I don't know)
ONE MORE THING ----- There are movies, right? when I approach when a movie shows up, tell me so I can watch it when it fits in, 'cause I sure as hell won't keep track of all this myself.

Only one of the movies is even considered canon; some of them are pretty good, but you don't really need to worry about watching them at the right time.
Episode 1: I'm Luffy! The man who's gonna be king of the pirates!
Pretty good introduction. It did seem a little too fast paced at times, like it should've been split into 2 episodes or so.
"You're a moron and a coward! Hehe, I hate people like you!" -Monkey D. Luffy, Ancient Chinese Prophet
Coby kind of annoys me, how long does he stick around?
SICK GUITAR RIFFS at the end with Zoro
Edit: I kinda wish I had more to say but it was the first episode, introductions and exposition comes before the interesting stuff. Nami was there I guess.
I liked Luffy the second he got out of the barrel. Quite the charismatic fellow. Shame he has rocks for brains, but as far as main characters go, he's pretty good.

There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out
Episode 2: Enter the great swordsman! Pirate hunter Roronoa Zoro!
Luffy continuing to call everyone weird is still great. Then again, everyone sorta is weird.
Helmeppo sure has a good heaping of buttchin. Also he's kind of a dick.
Zoro's kind of a badass.
"This guy is scum!" - Luffy ##Helmeppo
I can already tell that Luffy and Zoro's dynamic is going to be pretty good.
Nami still doing god knows what.
Morgan's axe-arm with the handle jutting out of his elbow grosses me out a bit. Also he's a dick too.
I didn't mention this before because I didn't stick around for it, but not sure I like the ending theme, though I'm sure there's like 30 so it doesn't matter.
The voice for Luffy is Colleen Clinkenbeard which I think is the best f***ing name ever.
Episode 3: Morgan versus Luffy! Whos the Mysterious Pretty Girl?
The Opening is still awesome.
I wonder if Sabat actually holds something in his mouth or something while talking while Zoro has a sword in his mouth. I'm expecting some sort of Xzibit joke.
Morgan is a pretty f***ing big dude.
That scene where Helmeppo holds a gun to Coby's head, I remember this one in particular because in the 4kids dub wasn't it edited to some silly looking hammer thing?
Coby's dialogue is basically "MARINES" and "LUFFY YOU'RE CRAZY"
Though Luffy's scene where he beat up Coby to help him out was pretty cool.
The last scene with the Group Salute (tm) was also really good. It's only the third episode but I feel like we're ending a developed arc. It's really neat how it has paced itself thus far.
i would link a video comparison that you can find on youtube, but it would be too spoil filled, especially considering you just started out really...perhaps a few hundred episodes down the line

Episode 5: A Terrifying Mysterious Power! Captain Buggy, the Clown Pirate!
Buggy:
Nami has this one bit of hair that's longer than the rest and my OCD annoys me.
Luffy is the king of deadpan snarking, even if he's being completely sincere. "Guys why am I in a cage?"
Zoro get's stabbed straight through the abdomen and continues fighting, so that was neat.
Speaking of which, couldn't they tell something was up when Zoro cut buggy in half and there was no blood? Seems like something that should've happened.
Also I don't know why Buggy didn't just move out of the way at the last scene when the cannon was pointed at him, he had plenty of time. Either way I'm guessing he's gonna pull off some Perfect Cell bulls*** and reform out of thousands of pieces because of his Devil Fruit power.
So do I ever find out how Shanks got that hat because he just said it's been with him a while and it's probably not just something he found at a thrift store one day after he was done being a total badass and wanted to wind down.

[18:23] thisisbonetail: I'm only 7 episodes into One Piece and I already feel attached to some of the characters [18:23] thisisbonetail: Funny how that works
