I think the show is still intermittently great after a rough stretch around 7-8 years ago. Still have never missed an episode over the entire run of the series!
It'll be sad to see it go. I'd love for it to get one final season, where they know beforehand that it's the last season. This season's episodes are already essentially done I think barring some post-production work. If this year is the end, then it won't have any spectacular finish in all likelihood.
I don't think a "huge send off arc" is needed, but one crazy final episode most assuredly is.

The show really needed to end, honestly. I stopped watching after like 350 odd episodes in because I got burnt out on the show. I watched about 95% of the first 16 seasons and the movie.
Surprised they're ending it right now though when they could reach for 25 seasons and be consistently around for a quarter of a century (not counting the Tracey Ulman shorts).

I'm kinda sad about this. I was hoping for the show to still be producing new episodes when my son is the same age I was when they started. They only had to hold on for 7 more seasons!
Man. I might be alone in feeling like this... but honestly, I think this is a huge bummer. :( I still love the show, even if the newer episodes aren't quite as good as earlier seasons.
MacFarlane, your Flintstones update better be damn good. Animation Domination is gonna need help!
They should have Frank Grimes the Third kill the Simpsons. That is, unless they've already had a Frank Grimes the Third, I've missed the past few seasons so I wouldn't know. I just barely caught Frank Grimes Jr.
It's a strange feeling in that The Simpsons still running is one of those constants. You always assume it's going to be there until something huge happens. Never felt like a show that could just end.

That's really too bad. The episodes lately have been much better than the 2005-10 stretch, so I thought maybe we were finally getting back on track.
I just hope it has a good sendoff. Something really big to make it feel complete.

This makes me really sad. I love The Simpsons, and I agree with the guys who say we've gone past the bad stretch of episodes, as the new ones are pretty funny.
It better get the fantastic send-off that it deserves though.
I imagine the finale will be one of the most-watched episodes in the history of television. I don't watch The Simpsons that much, but I'll definitely watch the finale.
Heh, If the simpsons puts up numbers comparable to the most watched Superbowls, or the finals eps of stuff like MASH, Cheers and Seinfeld I will be beyond shocked.
I've never really been a fan of the Simpsons at all, but this still makes me sad. It makes me even more sad that all that's left in its place is Family Guy and its ilk. I'm merely not a fan of Simpsons, but it's a million times funnier than the comedy black hole that is Family Guy.
American Dad and Bob's Burgers were both consistently funnier than The Simpsons last season. Honestly The Simpsons getting cancelled is probably for the best.
