This is what almost all modern game developers think but keep to themselves.
Well 90% is still pretty good. Strikes me as him trying to say "let's have the best of both worlds" but getting it horribly wrong.
And what he did was fall short of the weaker half of both of those things. Lower meta than Sims 2 and lower sales than Half-Life. That's what you get when you shoot for mediocrity.
