Gonna streamline this, so no big opening or anything. Let's just get to the point.
Welcome to the Oracle Challenge, the contest that tests your prediction abilities down to the hundredth of a percent!
Newcomers and veterans alike, welcome once again to a contest not to be missed. If you haven't seen it before (welcome to B8), the Oracle Challenge is a contest where you predict the winner and the percentage they are gonna get for every match in the contest. For every match you predict, you get points based on how good your prediction is, and the champion is the person with the most points at the end of the contest. Pretty simple, huh?
Team Signups
Pick a partner. That's it.
I want everyone to be actively involved in picking a partner this time, so there will be no free agent sign-ups please. If you don't know who you want to partner with, just name up to TEN users (order matters). If you don't name anyone, you're not signed up. If you need help naming some users, this list can help:
If any one of them confirms, you're good to go. If no one from your list confirms by the deadline, but they also sign-up here and not taken by anyone else, I'll pair you and one such user going down your list from top to bottom. First come first serve.
If you already have someone or two in mind, go ahead and request as usual.
And if you sign-up but leave with no partner by the end of this, TOUGH LUCK (you'll be randomized into a pair with other such poor souls).
Give your team a name or you'll regret the name I will bestow upon your team if I don't get a name by the deadline.
Team signups closes at the end of October 2011, i.e. one day before the contest officially begins.
Note: This topic is for team signups only. You don't need to sign-up to enter into the regular / individual Oracle Challenge.

I'll be in it again. If Lagoona is interested in teaming up again, that'd be great. Otherwise, I'll just join the individual comp, as I'm probably more of a hinderance than a help. Usually anyway.
Oracle individual for the first time was a blast last year, despite taking a hit for missing one match. (Next time I'll 50.01% all top seeds in advance instead of "temporarily" leaving blank matches I'm deliberating.)
So let's do team as well this year. Free agent, if anyone's interested cool.

Really surprised how many people are just saying "whatever" to the partnering thing. I can only imagine the hilarity that would come from me taking some of these people up on that offer.

Sorrry. I would still totally be down to get with you next contest if you're consenting.
From: whatisurnameplz | #033 Team: whatisurnameplz and blindhobo How about "Anonymous" for our name?
Yeah...I'm going to instantly have to veto that. It makes people think of 4chan and I don't want that here. We should be something stupid like 'Voldemort'.
The true winning team from last year (I mean, the "winning" team was the same dude) shall return, as long as Moltar is up for it again :) PALACE OF WISDOM
Confirmed Teams 1. Team Menjiana Jones and The Last Grapefruit (GrapefruitKing, Menji76) 2. Team ??? (blindhobo13, whatisurnameplz) 3. Team 21 Or was it 22? (GameBopAdv, MycroProcessor) 4. Team Predestined Divination (creativename, Ngamer64) 5. Team Palace of Wisdom (DSRage, Master Moltar) 6. Team ??? (gitanil, th3l3fty)
See the problem? Might as well just randomize everyone. C'mon people, request someone, anyone!
Yeah, obviously the "no free agent" thing didn't work out as well as I thought it would. I guess I'll take all the signups and do what I did last year for the free agents: pairing likes with likes consistency-wise from past records. Therefore, it'd be highly advantageous for aspiring oracle newbies to request someone who has been there before or you'll end up with another newbie / a non-performer (you probably don't want to be paired up with LMS, Tsunami, if he decides to show up in here!)
By the way, forgot to mention this in the opening post, but here's how the team competition works:
1. Each team consists of two people. 2. Predict the winner and percentage for every match, like you normally do. Everybody makes ONE prediction for each match, which counts for the individual contest and the team contest. 3. Your team score is equal to the two team members' scores added together. 4. If one player misses a prediction, they will get either the average score for the match or their partner's score, whichever is lower. This way, a missed prediction won't kill the team's chances. However, if both players miss the same match, they will score zero. This rule ONLY applies to the team scores.
See the problem? Might as well just randomize everyone. C'mon people, request someone, anyone!
To make Xcarvenger's life easier, making a few requests of some folks who were in proximity of me in last year's standings and thus we have a good chance of being paired anyways if Xcarvenger decides.
