So I'm grinding to get the 62000 souls I need for absolution. I realized that I'm not even entirely sure what absolution does. Is it something I should do? I haven't attacked any of the NPCs or anything like that.

Killed the Hydra, the stone mace guy (and got his ring which gives me a HUGE equip burden), and saved some woman from a golem. Does she do anything interesting? I can summon her from a signal, but that's all she said.

The area above the Hydra is a liiitle too tough for me. Full of jerkish tree guys that are way more powerful and only give 100 souls, and the spectral knights and mages. bleh

Oh, and Sonic the God Damn Hedgehog.

The slimes in the Sewers can drop both Green Titanite and Large Titanite. I'm currently farming them in the hallway right outside the bonfire. There's six of 'em there. Apparently the drops are supposed to be rare but I've found quite a few so far. Just one more Large Titanite to get my last piece of armor to +4 then I'm done farming for now.

Also, I kinda stumbled on the Valley of the Drakes while exploring and forest, killed 2 dragons and then decided it was too hard for my current self, is there anything awesome that anybody can use dow there? Like rings and stuff.

Only item I found was the Red Ring of something. It just raises your attack power when at low HP.

there's a divine element sword down there right next to the sleeping Zombie Dragon

it's good to have for the reviving skeletons in the catacombs because it prevents them from reviving

I am so far behind you all, and I made good progress today, I thought! Beat the Capra demon, explored the darkwood basin or whatever, died to ghosts in the ruins beneath Firelink (got cursed by frogs from falling down a hole in the sewers, lost 9000 soul and 3 humanity, gave up, and heibgq3ihtrfbny3qiuwhfjm9ubwenv), got some better armor, died to big knights in darkwood basin (not the area before the hydra, the other direction), died to the hydra (thought you guys said it was easy if you got close - thing is, I couldn't get close!).

Definitely looking forward to more exploring this week!

Havel's Ring, from the Stone Mace guy in that spiral staircase. In addition to the ring you get from Yurt 2.0, you can boost your equip burden crazy high. Mine's 93.6 at 18 endurance!

Also, I don't know why I got 1 humanity after I died, but I think I'm going to get out of the Catacombs now. <_< Sick and tired of chasing that stupid pyromancer around.

Best advice I have is to just ignore them completely, you can walk around all but one of them. Even that last one you can ignore and run up to the butterfly before he stands up.

Do you have the Drake sword?

Do you have a decent shield?

Lure them out one at a time into the clearing, circle them, and hit them from behind. Keep up your shield as much as possible, and when they slow you hug their body. Drop your shield after every hit to recover stamina, since their swing is so slow.

They're super easy if you play cautious.

Oh, I know the requirements. I have one. And the Great Stoneshield as well. Didn't really feel like boosting my strength that high, though, especially when my Black Knight Sword works just fine.

Oh, awesome. Will try that. And if Pyromancy works then I should be good to go... I never have humanity so doubt it will be as strong as yours, but I've been throwing fire orbs around and they've been half decent.

I'm really not impressed with the magic in this game though.. everything seems too slow to actually use in battle. I thought using either magic or melee would be viable strategies, but it seems that you basically have to be centered on melee. The regular Soul Arrow seems to be the most viable spell, although pyromancy is quite fast as well. Heavy Soul Arrow is alright for pulling, but I can't imagine any scenario where I would have enough time to cast it after engaging the enemy.. Same thing with Heal.

I only have the short-distance basic pyromancy right now, it hasn't done anything good for me yet. I prefer Soul Arrow by a lot.

Combustion has its uses, and Fireball is amazing. Both do great damage.

Ugh, when I was human there were about four summon signals around the Gaping Dragon area but I messed up and died. Now I put my summon sign up and I can't get summoned at all.

dammit people stop dying, how am I supposed to grind souls and humanity if you're all too dead to summon me?

Yeah, my hand is alright. I'll probably add a ton of levels to it now that I have the forest door unlocked.


Is there a level cap in this game? I'm sure I've already messed up my stats pretty bad, but I'm wondering if I should stop leveling until I know I need a certain number of a certain stat, or if I can just keep throwing stats around with minimal amounts of thought.

If you go all the way to the opposite end of that room where the door to Blighttown is, there's a door on the left that can only be opened from that side. Go through, go up the stairs, up the ladder, up some more stairs, then turn left at the torch undead. That might be the one you're talking about, but this is a shortcut back to it.

I think that's how you get back to it, I'm going off memory here.
