I think the driving is fine as long as there aren't too many missions that focus on driving/racing. More weapons and side quests are the things that 4 needed.

On a "oh wow, this game actually runs" level, GTAIV is by far the best. On a "oh wow, this is actually fun" level, it's certainly not.

That said, semi-hype.

GTAIV was lacking in side missions and story missions were variable, but were 75% drive from point A to point B or shoot all these dudes. Or both.

I thought it was a fine game, though.

Honestly, as long as it has the same/similar physics engine to GTAIV, I could care less about the story. I had my most fun in that game just screwing around jumping off ramps and slowly but surely driving motorcycles up apartments staircases.

But yeah, hype.

Precisely! Was it awful at first? Yes, I think I flipped over like five things just trying to get to the beach. That said, once you get used to them the driving controls become second nature and just as rewarding as in the other games. I personally absolutely ****ing loved GTAIV, so I'll be balls deep into GTAV the day it comes out.

I loved GTAIV. My only issue is that it needed better mission variety, but I would be lying to you if I said I didn't enjoy the hell out of it. The combat and driving in IV was so good compared to the other games that I can't help but love it to pieces. The DLC (TBoGT in particular) was most excellent as well. If that's anything to go by, Rockstar will be bringing us better missions in the future.

Oh, and the storyline was awesome. And so were all the details of Liberty City.

I still need to get GTAIV again. I bought it used (stupid me, I know) and the disc flaked out on me after a while. I know it isn't my PS3 because that baby's flawless with everything else. Well except the internet browser but what else is new?

I'll get the complete version with the DLCs I missed at that point too.

I got used to the driving quickly and that's why I did enjoy the game a lot, but it was still distinctly less fun than San Andreas. The driving was "adequate" after you got good at it, but it was still too boring/limited compared to SA driving. I played GTAIV for 40 hours, then picked up SA again and IMMEDIATELY the driving felt so much more fun. Not to mention other things like boring setting and no jets/fun vehicles that made it more boring.

That being said, GTAIV added a TON of amazing features into the formula. The shooting and cover system was brilliant, the story decisions were amazing for a sandbox game... phone was cool in concept, bad execution, but still cool. Lots of other stuff that I can't pull off the top of my head.

Use the classic controls in GTA4 if you don't like the new ones - think I did when I played through, but really, you get used to the new ones.

I'd still like to see a game with 2 lead characters working together one day, some of those missions (where you had someone helping you out) were quite fun. Be a bit different anyway.

Who else remembers the time we all tried to race fire trucks around Times Square, but we got stuck and had to get in other cars because all those trucks were too wide for the street?

I heard about 16 firetruck races from neon. This was before I got the game, unfortunately.

I do remember jumping in on a 17-hour session with Dante and Silvercross. I was not there the entire time.

Yeah the 16 player games we had in the first week or so were just hilarious and ridiculous. The great firetruck race was impossible not to enjoy.

We had a nice little core of players for a while, just goofing off, and a couple of guys that would basically just run around shooting everyone while we were trying to do something organized. Being shown the Batmobile was probably my least and most favorite thing ever.

That's like.. the least exciting place it could be.

The money font suggesting that it's Washington DC would be interesting.

The V being for Vegas would be f***ing awesome since This is Vegas was cancelled.

Or the money font being five, which is Lincoln, could suggest Illinois, and therefore Chicago, which would be bloody banging awesome.

But no, just Los Angeles again. New York and Los Angeles. Ugh.

I have expected GTAV to be Vegas since III was released. But I agree that this looks like Washington DC, which would be pretty cool. Mixing all the low level gang work (of which there is a lot in DC) with all the political stuff (assassinations, maybe a Watergate inspired stealth mission) would be pretty cool. And you just know there would be a mission where you need to break into the White House.
