Finally played Uncharted 2 btw, and it was pretty impressive.

Uncharted 2 is a pretty great game, yeah.

Bonus Question #1: What is your personal favorite Materia in the game? What are your thoughts on the Materia system in general?

Probably Enemy Skill. Would be Steal if the rates were higher! It's just versatile and fun, acquiring and using new moves. You give someone that, they're pretty much set. Shout-out to Long Range too, lets me stick Cloud in the back row all game from the mines onwards! I really like the system - it has obvious, well-documented flaws, but the customisability of it is just so much fun. I love the unique materia you can find; the way you can link different materia for different effects; the fun of mastering the materia (I think the growth system of is very clever)... it's just addictive.

Bonus Question #2: What is your favorite Limit Break in the game? Which character overall has the best set of Limit Breaks?

I love Cloud's set. Might be because it's obviously the easiest to unlock (not including Cait Sith's, which is my least favourite) but it's just fun. My favourite one has always been Highwind though, just the image of Cid summoning the entire airship to bomb enemies into oblivion.

Bonus Question #3: Pretty sure I’ve asked this question before, but let’s ask it again: What is your favorite FFVII mini-game?

Chocobo Racing. Shouldn't like it as much I do, but...well, I do.

Bonus Question #4: What is your favorite song(s) from the game?

Would say this is possibly my favourite soundtrack of any game. It's between FF7 and FFX, no doubt. So in lieu of a favourite, here is a list of contenders: Anxious Heart, Who Are You?, Still More Fighting, Red XIII's Theme, Crazy Motorcycle, Main Theme every single variation on it (in particular "On That Day, Five Years Ago" which is the incredibly broken, desolate version), The Great Warrior, Those Chosen By The Planet, Cid's Theme, Steal The Tiny Bronco!, Aerith's Theme, The Highwind Takes To The Skies (fun fact: first time I heard the theme was in the Gold Saucer because it plays when you win the Mog House minigame, and then when I heard it in its proper form I was very confused why the airship theme was stolen from some ****ty optional minigame :p), Sending A Dream Into the Universe, Mako Cannon Is Fired, and of course One-Winged Angel. And I'm trying not to make that list too broad, I absolutely love all of those songs.

Bonus Question #5: What is your favorite town in the game? What is your favorite dungeon in the game?

Town would be Cosmo Canyon probably, assuming Midgar doesn't count :p. Cool music, cool atmosphere, nice details... feels unique without being cheesy. Everything you'd want from a town in an RPG! Though I will say FF7 has great towns generally, Wutai aside. Dungeon, tempted to go Mythril Mines since they're shortest :p. Really, the game's strength doesn't come from its dungeons.

Bonus Question #6: How would you rank the cast of FFVII?

Only including playable characters (and only their appearances in this game):

Cloud > Barret > Cid > Sephiroth > Red > Cait Sith > Zack > Tifa > Aerith > Vincent > Yuffie

Bonus Question #7:: Who is your party of choice in FFVII?

Differs. First playthrough I ever did it was Cloud/Vincent/Cid because I was young and assumed since the last characters were the hardest to unlock that meant they were the best (which is also why I used Ness in the original Smash Bros.!). Then I went through a phase of favouring Cloud/Vincent/Barret or Cloud/Vincent/Yuffie because I decided Long Range meant everything. Now I just kind of pick whoever I feel like, most likely whoever has the least limit breaks unlocked, is lowest level, or I recently got good equipment for.

I guess this isn't the topic for it, but since there won't be FF discussion for a while I might as well.

*Uncharted 1 & 2 spoils*

Man the game felt huge though compared to 1. You go to so many locations, and there are even places like the beach that are cutscene only, jeez man. The work they put into this game. Everything about it was bigger and better.

Less Sully is never good though, and I think the El Dorado curse was cooler than this Tree of Life stuff.
And as much as exploding/burning tree battle with a superhuman is awesome, I think the fistfight on a stormy boat made a more climactic ending.

Dat multiplayer is p. cool.

That's all I can think of at the moment, gonna proceed to do Easy/Treasure Hunt/Medal and Crushing playthroughs.

UC3 has more Sully though, so it's been pretty great so far.

Obligatory "that's not saying much" remark

Hey, Selphie's not that bad, really! Easily the worst of the main cast, but still not bad!

Also, I've played up through the Sonic Heroes level in Sonic Generations (Seaside Hill). I was impressed with how good those "Dreamcast Era" levels are! The bosses in this game are kinda disappointing though. Not because they're poorly designed, but because they're short.

Selphie's best moment is being unnecessarily aggressive with random comments here and there that suggest she's secretly a psychopath, surely? Like when she suggests blowing up the train, and so on?

The great thing about Selphie is that, beneath that cheery, bright exterior, there's clearly a sick, twisted mind. It's an interesting contrast.

Beat Sonic Generations last night. If you like Sonic games even a little bit, play this game.

Also leon, was in the mood for reading write-ups so I found your old character rankings. Currently up to 103 (Zorn and Thorn!) at the moment. Was curious whether there's any changes you'd make now? Or would you rather wait until you've finished this series of topics before looking at them again?

I honestly don't know what I would change. Anything beyond, say, the top...20 is probably pretty fluid and can change depending on how recently I've played the game and various other factors.

Just off the top of my head, I'd probably move Barret up a lot higher. He was probably the hardest character to place when I made my list the first time. I changed his spot at least 3-4 times while I was doing that list.

I know I am! Oh man, that intro music.

Also, did you know that FFT has three different "intro" things that play if you wait long enough at the start up menu? I'm sure you did, but you never know!

The first intro basically gives the background to the Lion War, the fight over who would be the prince's guardian.

The second intro plays like a movie trailer, where they show cool scenes from the game, fancy battle spells, overlaid with various quotes from the game. It even ends with that screen that shows who's in the "movie" and the rating!

The third intro basically introduces some of the Job Classes.

Pretty neat stuff!

This little intro where Alazlam prefaces the story is pretty cool, talking about how Delita is famous in Ivalice even to this day. Everyone knows his story. Yet there's a man who has been forgotten by the pages of history...until a report concealed by the church for a long time finally surfaced, revealing him to be the true hero of the Lion War (Yeah, that's right. Take that, Delita fans). The church said he was a blasphemer and an anarchist, the root of all evil. But was that really the "truth?"

FFT opens up with an interesting premise, that's for sure. It reminds me right away of why I love Ramza so much, too. Probably one of the best "selfless, self-sacrificing" heroes out there. But we'll talk more about that as we go. If you want to hear the full story at once, you can follow Ultima's lead and read my writeup about him on the Wiki!

Now we get one of two FMVs in the game (By the way, it's kinda interesting that the inside of FFT's case has an image of Ramza and Alma riding chocobos from the ending on it). We get some nice bagpipes as the camera pans over a beautiful field and countryside. After that, we see some knights riding chocobos toward a certain location, and that's where our story begins...

Oh right, while I'm thinking about it, let's discussion name pronunciations! I'm not sure if anything in the PSP version of FFT used voice acting or not. I've never played it. I've only read the script. How do you pronounce these names?

Beoulve - BAY-olve (with a long O like "old")
Delita - Da-lee-tuh
Ovelia - Oh-veel-ee-uh

Also, FFT has great sprites. I love how they look.

I also love the sound the text makes as it scrolls. That one I can't quite explain.
