Well shucks. I've been watching SNL pretty much every night this year, but the one night I fall asleep ahead of time it turns out to be a great one. Pity.

this was EASILY the best episode I have seen in a long time, but I don't watch it regularly, just every once in awhile.

Before the show even started, I was praying that Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen wouldn't be filling up time with their crappy, horribly awkward, repetitive characters throughout the episode. Luckily, they only did two skits instead of the seemingly usual 4 or 5 (Today Show was saved by Regis).

Yup, two bad Armisen/Wiig skits is considered a victory in this age of SNL. Why can't we get rid of them already?!?!

I'm glad somebody else shares the same views I do on Kristen Wiig. She's funny, but gosh I get so tired of awkward humor. A lot of people seem to say she's the best part of the show. I don't agree. I disagree with you on Fred Armisen. I think he's a lot more versatile than you give him credit for.

It was the best show so far this season, not because it was funny, but because it was nostalgic and really brought together the themes of family and Christmas (and Hanukkah) . Twas awesome

I agree that he's a versatile performer, and I love some of the things he pulls off. The Thom Yorke impression had me in stitches, and I always love his Prince, but 95% of his screentime comes from:
- A terrible Obama
- Lawrence Welk Show (w/ Kristen Wiig)
- Weekend Update skits as part of a pair who can't sing, a guy who can't tell a joke, and a bunch of other ones that I have blocked from memory (props for David Paterson, always hilarious)
- Manuel Ortiz show or the one where he takes over the women's talk show
- Retired characters like Ferecito or the Native American comedian
- And pretty much any new skit he does

Like, Bill Hader can balance too many game show hosts with an onslaught of things he does incredibly well that are hilarious, but Armisen... it doesn't help that Wiig's at her most obnoxious in some of his worse skits.
