Not gonna lie, I'm way behind the times. I used to frequent this board nearly every day, and I can honestly say the last contest I remember was L-Block's thorough storming of the 4-way format. With nothing but sporadic appearances under my belt since then, I feel completely lost in many respects. For instance, apparently Sony released something called the "Vita" today, and I had just now heard about it for the first time.
So, Board 8, I'm asking you, as a past compatriot, catch me up.
What big sleeper game hits have I missed? What massive company screw-ups have occurred? Why does everyone hate Ulti and transcience now?

Wii U is going to be released next year, IIRC. Capcom now hates Megaman. Persona 3 and 4 are pretty awesome JRPGs.
I heard the term "Wii U" tossed around, but it seemed like it was just an iPad with the "Wii" name slapped onto it. Is that about the long and short of it?
I suspected as much from Capcom since Megaman didn't appear in MvC3.
Seems like the JRPG has been dying as well. Anything besides the Personas recently released?

Not quite, since Wii U (probably) can't run applications other than video games. The one that looks like an iPad is only the controller ). But you can transfer play a game on TV and transfer it to the controller so you can resume playing your video game only on the controller, making it portable.
There are...Radiant Historia, the latest Rune Factory, Pokemon Black and White, Devil Survivor: Overclocked, and some more. But yeah, it's been a slow time for JRPGs.

Alpha/beta males? I assume this "realo" is trying to apply the social psyche theory as it pertains to animals to users? I would be forced to inquire as to why this ever came up, but yeah, I suppose there could be some merit to that discussion. The biggest determinant of alpha rank is ferocity, though, which isn't something that can really be ascertained via message board posts.

Contests: If there was ever any doubt that Link (and the Zelda series as a whole) always wins, it's gone now. Last year's Game of the Decade contest was sweet though, you missed that.
Games: The JRPG WAS dead, but its future looks pretty bright. Xenoblade is a major one to look out for. There was a big stink about its NA release (it's already out literally everywhere else) but it's coming there next year. Best JRPG of the decade according to most! Oh, FFXIII is pretty bad by the way, avoid that one. Also, Nintendo games are hard again.
Board: What everybody else said, though you should be aware that Vlado has lost all creativity as a troll and now just posts topic high-fiving people who agree with him in the PotD. Not much going on here now tbh.

I see that MM won? Was that...considered a good outcome? It seems like Zelda fans just sorta went with whatever was on their plate for dinner.

Some sort of spiritual successor to Xenogears/saga? That could be worth exploring. And yeah, I heard about FFXIII. And the first ten-twenty hours. Ugh.

Poor Vlado. I remember when his foreign antics were vaguely entertaining. I seem to recall Bulgaria as his fatherland, is that accurate?

Majora's Mask won Game of the Decade to prevent Brawl from winning it all. Earlier in the contest, a lot of people were upset when Brawl barely defeated Melee.
You've been most helpful Luster. Though, many might disagree, I'd have rather seen Brawl win over MM. Melee would probably be the most preferred, but...

Nah, it was a colossal upset, and took a lot of rallying to happen. Zelda didn't even destroy that contest as a whole, just the super-close last two matches. Most people on the board didn't even having it winning its division.
Let's put it this way, the contest was a three-way toss-up between FFX, SSBM, and SSBB and the winner wound up being none of those though all of them still looked winner-level. You also had some major upsets and runs like Shadow of the Colossus and Golden Sun doing brilliantly. You even had games like Fallout 3 that actually challenged the major Nintendo players. Plus the board was great for the whole thing, definitely not one to miss.
