I hope Halo 4 is f***ing amazing. It fixes everything wrong with Reach and its the greatest fricken' Halo of them all. Maybe my most anticipated game of next year.

Or AC3 if it makes enough changes to the formula that the "AC2 trilogy" established - otherwise I think it'll be good, but too much of "more of the same" to be GotY.

I'd also go for GTA V if out in 2012. That's one funny thing about games right now, pretty much every announced game is currently listed on most sites as "tba 2012". Like games don't take years to make, it's okay to say 2013 company folks. =P

In the near future, hell yeah Mass Effect 3.

How well did GTAIV do with GotY awards? From what I recall, it lit up the review scores and was met with pretty harsh and pretty quick backlash from fans, and I can't even remember it doing that well during award season. Why presume GTAV will do better, especially when ME3 and Bioshock have more hype?

When I made the original post, I was thinking about what would be the media consensus for GOTY. GTAIV, for all its backlash and "OSCAR-QUALITY STORYTELLING" meme that started out of GI's hyperbole, it got 40+ GOTY awards, more then any other game that year.

For the curious with this year's picks:

Batman: Arkham City - 11

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - 3
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - 3

The media just loooves these big, sandbox games, whether they'd be this year's Skyrim, last year's Red Dead Redemption(second only to ME2 in GotY awards), 2006's Oblivion, etc. If GTAV is indeed hitting next year, that would be my bet.

I don't think there's a reason for posts like this anymore; they've been proven untrue for a solid three years now. This site has obviously rebelled against the Wii; it gets destroyed in every GotY poll. SMG2 is a (by most counts) superior sequel to a game that won easily in 2007, and it lost easily in 2010. New Nintendo does not equal win on GameFAQs.

First post is dead on, IMO - I think most sites will go with GTAV or BioShock.

Personally, though, if Plants vs. Zombies 2 comes out next year (God willing), that'll be a stone-cold lock for my personal GotY!

Define more hype? GTA is a more popular series than either of those and gets more media attention in general, GTA V was simply unseen completely until that recent teaser trailer.

Mass Effect 3 is coming out in a few months, gonna be excellent. In the grand scheme of things, I think GTAV will be the bigger game. Also, GTA IV is a game millions of people dig.

All in all, the end of the Mass Effect trilogy is gonna be memorable, GTA V looks like it has mucho potential, etc, lotta good stuff.
