He is pretty iconic across media.

My personal fav of all time is Rob Van Dam. RVD is the king!

Now, for all time you can talk skill or popularity ("drawing power" as they say), and Stone Cold was right up there with The Rock at that time. For all time, Hogan, Flair, etc. And all the technical wizards.

I say RVD, the whole f'n show.

"wrestler"?

Far from it.

"Sports entertainer"?

One of, if not the best.

Probably not but he was my personal favourite.

Austin was arguably better, and in the ring Shawn Michaels definitely was. And Undertaker's been around for god knows how long, so yeah.

All in all on an objective basis the best wrestler of all time is Mason Ryan, but Rock probably cracks the top 5, 10 easily.

As for The Rock being iconic across all media as you say, well Dwayne's current status as a popular actor doesn't have much to do with him being a contender for greatest wrestler. But he certainly is electrifying.

To be fair, The Rock transcended wrestling like very few, if any, have ever done, even before he got into acting. The alternative is more or less Hogan.

It's like the reason people think Ali is the greatest sportsman of all time despite a lot of people believing there are actually much better boxers out there.

I can rehash my argument if anyone wants it, but I have the belief that there are four reasonable answers to "Best Wrestler Ever" depending on how you define it: Flair, Austin, Bret, and HBK.

It's like a sports league MVP discussion. Your answer depends entirely on your definition, and different people have different definitions.

HBK by miles and miles. He is the is not just a jack of all trades, he is a master of all trades. For my money the best in ring performer ever, one of the best on the mic ever, works amazing as a face or heel, had great matches with anyone he worked with. The line "could get a 4 star match out of a broom" does not apply to anyone else.

I will say CM Punk while not as great in the ring as HBK is slowly moving his way to being viable for the best ever conversation. We'll see how his career goes.

Macho Man would also be a solid argument for best ever as he also was a total package.

Bret Hart if he were better on the mic would for sure be there.

Taker when he is on his game is amazing but he has so much of his career that was truly awful. His character also didn't allow for great promos far too often.

Never liked Austin or Flair so I am biased and will not give them credit as I did not enjoy their work.

For just affect on wrestling it would have to be Rock or Hogan since those two are arguably the biggest main stream media names in wrestling. But neither is the best overall. Hogan was particularly awful in the ring, I mean when your best match ever is with Warrior ... well Warrior is godly so I guess it makes sense.

There are so few wrestlers that bring it all, HBK, Punk, Savage, Flair (if you like guys screaming and getting red faced I guess), Mr. Perfect, Jericho.

I think Hulk Hogan is probably still the greatest wrestler ever. If we are talking something more modern, Steve Austin is far better than The Rock as well.

Yeah I don't really think Rock's in the discussion because Austin exists. They've got similar styles, but Austin's a better wrestler by a good amount, almost as good a talker, and stayed involved with wrestling longer.

That's not to say I think Austin's the best. He might be, though. I think there's an argument to be made for Shawn Michaels or Kurt Angle too. I guess Bret Hart or Ric Flair on a stretch.

I'd probably go with HBK though.
