...That wasn't questionable at all. Sanchez's forward progress was obviously stopped. Even if it hadn't, he threw to an OL, which might have well ended up as a safety by penalty itself. I don't blame the refs at all, that was not questionable and it was the correct call. I don't care that it "went against" the Jets. It was the proper call and I'm not going to whine about it. Sanchez should have thrown it away earlier. I'm just not sure what the obsession is with blaming the refs for every single thing that doesn't go a team's way. Every now and then they make a blatantly stupid call, but watching these topics week after week you'd think they decide every single week to intentionally troll half the league.

I wasn't 100% sure that it was clearly a safety, not gonna complain obv, but it seemed that if you can call the other 2 tuck rules, its worth a look there?
And I mean I dont complain about every call. The 2 tuck calls were clearly right, and thats not the refs fault. Theyre rules that need to be changed and I think most would agree with me?
I think a lot of people give the refs too much flak sometimes, myself included and I realize I'm overly hard on them, but man they botched at least 1 huge one on the Giants we can agree on, maybe 2.

I don't think it has anythign to do with being homers, if I say that its just cuz I'm mad. But its clearly poor officiating at times.

The Jets are still not eliminated from the playoffs but need to win at miami next week and have Oakland (VS Chargers), Titans (At Houston, a Titans win and Chargers win puts SD into the playoffs), and Bengals loss (Versus Ravens)

Edit: I'm an idiot, San Diego is still alive, pending the outcome of today's game.

Tampa Bay:

Has allowed 23 or more points in every game over their 9 game losing streak

Has scored 20 or more points only once (lost 35-26 to GB)

Just lost the turnover battle 4-0 to the Panthers which extends their already horrendous turnover margin

If NO actually showed up week 6, they'd have an 11 game losing streak in which they'd lost 4 games by at least 25 points each, and lost by single digits only twice.

My lord this team is so bad

I wasn't 100% sure that it was clearly a safety, not gonna complain obv, but it seemed that if you can call the other 2 tuck rules, its worth a look there?

Well, I'm not sure that always gets called a safety. For example, I think someone like Brady, Brees, or Rodgers might "get away" with that kind of play. (Granted, they probably wouldn't throw to the offensive line either, which probably helps) but I legitimately think that was a clear safety and that it should have been called that way for any QB in that situation.

Forward progress is kind of tricky when it comes to sacking a QB who is trying to throw it away, and I feel QBs usually get the benefit of the doubt in those scenarios, but I don't think they should, and I don't think Sanchez was close enough on that play to warrant it anyway.

The 2 tuck calls were clearly right, and thats not the refs fault. Theyre rules that need to be changed and I think most would agree with me?

Yeah, the tuck rule needs to go. It's awful, and I don't know what they were thinking when they established it. Just that it went the Jets favor in this game doesn't make it any less awful a rule. That said, as long as it is a rule, I do expect it to be called consistently and correctly, which I think it was.

ut man they botched at least 1 huge one on the Giants we can agree on, maybe 2.

I definitely agree with the Holmes fumble. I felt the other calls were correct, but I will readily admit I'm not 100% on that first fumble recovery, so I wouldn't call that "getting screwed." That was the closest call of the day, IMO.

But its clearly poor officiating at times.

Absolutely. I just don't think the Jets/Giants game was a particularly noteworthy entry into the "horribly officiated games" category. ...Because there have been some truly "incredible" ref performances over the years. It takes more than one (maybe two, but again, I'll only completely agree to one) bad calls to enter that hallowed ground!

I don't think it's reasonable for the Jets to expect everything to go their way this year. That said, it would be in character with their last two playoff appearances.

Yeah, I know. However, I can't really root against them making the playoffs when there's still a chance even when I know it might be to their long-term benefit to miss them if it can lead to the changes they desperately need. Mostly because I don't trust them to make those changes.

I like how the Titans/Jets can absolutely kill each other on tiebreakers just by both winning.

They could just hand the spot to Oakland or San Diego.

Tennessee tiebreaks Oakland

Jets tiebreak San Diego

If both win, they both get tiebroken by both Oakland AND San Diego!

I've been gone all year but I've surmised this about the 49ers:

1: they've only beaten 2-3 noteworthy teams
2: their defense is superb
3: their offense is lackluster

that said, if it's true, why does anyone take them seriously?

Falcons/Saints is Monday.

But if the 49ers could find some way to get that first round bye and have New Orleans come out to San Fran, they would stand a good chance of winning because the Saints are a bad road team.

Also, for as exciting as the AFC playoff picture is going into the last week of the season, the NFC playoff picture is pretty boring. Looks like the only thing that's really going to be on the line (other than seeding, I guess) is Cowboys/Giants. Lions look well on their way to clinching a playoff spot today, and while the Falcons may lose to the Saints on Monday, their last game is against Tampa Bay, who is playing as poorly as any team in the league right now.

...I think they can actually.

If Chargers win and Broncos lose:

All 3 at 8-8
No head-to-head sweep
All at 3-3 in Division

...Oh. Wow. Common Games come first in the Division Tiebreakers. This could kill the Chargers.

Um...

v Common Opponents:

Broncos: 6-6
Chargers: 6-6
Raiders: 6-6

Actually, assuming I'm right, they survive here too and it goes to Conference Record.

Chargers would be 7-5, Broncos and Raiders would be 6-6.

But I'm not 100% sure on this. Not sure how the tiebreakers would be applied exactly in a three-way tie within the division.
