Cowboys/Giants has already been flexed to Sunday night, week 17.

I had it feeling it would unless the Cowboys actually clinched the NFC East today. As long as we didn't have Giants Loss + Cowboys Win, that game was going to have division champion implications. There are other games as well, but I never expected them to pass up that game unless they pretty much had to.

Also, the Jets/Titans play at 1, and every other meaningful team plays at 4:15.
I expect the NFC picture to be settled once the Bears lose

cries of the refs trying to steal the game for the Giants are absolutely ridiculous and uncalled for, considering the refs stole a TD from the Jets with that BS illegal touch penalty (which, since it resulted in a Giants TD, was a fourteen point swing)
so yeah, Giants won a game they had no rights to winning for the third time this year (other two being Arizona and Miami)
and no, this is not bitterness as an Eagles fan - we screwed ourselves over by not figuring out how to hold onto a lead for half the season

yea you don't, because that illegal touch was an illegal touch, and there were two overturned turnovers that even Jets fans would agree should have been Giants ball, as they did all day where I'm from, and this is the prime spot for Jets/Giants fans.
You're just a typical philadelphia crybaby. Get used to it, you guys are never winning a superbowl.
So if the Bears somehow find a Christmas miracle tonight and beat the Packers, then beat the AP-less Vikings next week, and have the Falcons lose their last two..........the Bears could get in.
Unfortunately, the Bears won't beat the Pack, and Atlanta won't lose to Tampa next week, because Tampa ****ing sucks. Oh Cutler, if only you stayed healthy....

Not changing this sig until the Winnipeg Blue Bombers win the grey cup. Started Aug. 16/04

hmm, digging around all I can, I can't find any clear explanation of the illegal touch, so I'll concede that one (this is yet another reason the NFL needs to release the rulebook!)
doesn't change the fact that there are two other games the Giants had handed to them, nor does it change the fact that I already mentioned that the Eagles didn't deserve to make the playoffs, so it doesn't bother me too much right now

Well let's go Bears. Helps me more in my confidence pool (I have the Packers at 10, but most people have the Packers at 14+). Currently in 5th/60 or so.

As far as I understand the rules, the illegal touch was the correct call. On some level at least.
I believe that if the punting team touches the ball first, then the receiving team is "protected" from screwing it up any further. That is to say, they're free to pick the ball up and advance if they like, but if they have a negative return/play the ball is spotted where the punting team touched it.
Mind you, I almost feel the Giants should have lost possession on that play just to make a point because what in the world were they thinking even approaching that ball in that scenario but I do think it was the correct call.
Edit: I guess what I'm saying is that my understanding is that the correct call was "Giants ball." I simply wasn't aware that was a penalty the way it played out, but maybe I'd need to take another look at it.

Is there some sort of contractual obligation for Tirico to preface Tony Gonzalez's name with "Future Hall of Famer" every time he talks about him or something?

I'm more interested in if the Saints keep passing here with this lead with Brees only 30 yards back.
...
...Ah, who am I kidding, of course they will. >_>
I'd laugh though if they ran it and it broke free for a TD. The last few possessions have seemed to go as against Brees breaking the record as possible. The turnover, that long return a while ago...

Yeah. Just blatantly going into the shotgun there was hilarious. I thought they were still going to go for the record, but more in a "try to run twice, uh-oh third down, gotta go for the first to run the clock out, time to throw it way downfield" kind of fashion.

Man, thinking back, I was 12 years old when I went to the 2001 Rose Bowl between Washington and Purdue. It was Drew Brees's last college game. I had no idea at the time that I was watching the QB who would go on to break Dan Marino's record.
I've been a big fan of Drew Brees since he was at Purdue. I'm glad he's done well in the NFL. I was worried he was going to be a flop after his first couple years in the league

You know what would've been funny, if Brees broke the record, they celebrated it like they did in the game there, and then on the next play he throws like a pass for -4 yards and loses the record.

I secretly wanted that to happen just to see what the announcers/fans/everyone would do. I wouldn't care if Brees got it back right after that, I just wanted to see what would happen.

My only major complaint is that Matthew Stafford over Eli Manning would've been a no-brainer for me. Tons of good QB play in the NFC - Cam Newton totally would've been in had he played in the AFC, for instance - and Manning had a very good year but Stafford had a better one and he lead the Lions to the goddamn playoffs. Stafford threw 10 more TDs and 2 fewer INTs. No idea how Eli got the nod.
Philip Rivers as the 3rd AFC QB doesn't pass the eye test for me, the Chargers completely slumped and Rivers threw way too many interceptions. The problem is I don't know who should go before him. I kind of want to see Andy Dalton there, but the numbers don't really bear that out. Same for Matt Hasselbeck and Joe Flacco.
Other positions, no problem. I really think Marshawn Lynch should've been a pro bowler, but I think he's first alternate actually and Forte's on IR so he's probably in anyway, and the NFC was f***ing stacked at RB this year so it's hard to complain, the guys who did get in were completely worthy.
