I don't know about Skyward Sword, but my cartridge of A Link to the Past showed up in the mail today, ordered from ebay a week ago for a total of 17 bones. Who's really the winner here?? Looks like I'm gonna have a fantastic evening.

Does SS really have bad music? They made such a big deal about it being done by a real orchestra.

gee thanks

I would've quit if it was a bad game. It's not though. It's also not a 9-10 like most critics have been hyping it up to be.

I guess Nook cares more about internet grammar than game design because he's avoiding talking about something as interesting as an actual game he has worked on, but jumps all over a bad comma splice

not sure if serious

it is one of the least melodic zelda soundtracks, certainly for console, and having good strong monophonic melodies is one of the biggest things that tends to translate to "memorable". one of the advantages that older guys like koji kondo have over the newer composers who did SS' soundtrack is that the old hardware forced you to write that kind of music

that being said I still think the SS soundtrack is pretty great, slightly better than TP on the whole

The music for Skyloft and Faron Woods definitely fit what you just described.

@foolm0ron: Um, I wasn't sure if you were serious or not. You just randomly came in and started flaming me and even got one of your messages deleted. I just assumed you were mad about this topic, so I ignored you. You also singled me out as a "Nintendo fan" in which case, I'll fully admit I am one. I'm also a fan of Sega, Clover/Platinum, suda51, and ios gaming.

If you wanna have a serious discussion about game design, then I'm all ears, kiddo.

Now you're just confusing me because first I thought you had developed games, but no I guess you just made that up.
Then I thought you were into grammar because of your obsession over comma splices, but no that can't be right, because you misinterpreted "these are Nintendo fans", referring to a plural, as "singling out".

The only reason I stuck around this topic after having dismissed your opinions on game design is because you mentioned that you worked on games, so I was ready to swallow my words and learn from a game designer, but I was just wasting my time.

I've worked on games, but nothing anybody's ever heard of. I do know my way around XNA and know a little bit of coding, but nothing extreme.

Not relevant to the discussion.

You're a hypocrite who applies double standards. Older games get free passes due to nostalgia, and you harshly criticise newer games for the exact same flaws.

never said the entire song was monophonic, just the melody, this tends to be the most memorable type because it translates well to humming/singing which would likely be the origin of music long before we had other instruments, just a weird thing hard wired in our brains

Not true. I've only played and beaten the Banjo games in the last three years and I loved them. Those two games were some of the most fun tedium I've ever played. It was good fun 100% completing them. And finding all the masks in MM. And finding the Gold Skulltullas in OoT. And the Oysters in San Andreas. And the endings and side quests in Chrono Trigger.

Know why? Cause none of those were forced on me. All those scavenger hunts I did of my own accord because the games were good and fun enough for me to want to complete them.

Skyward wasn't fun enough for me to warrant a 100% completion because those hunts were FORCED on me. Wtf, I don't wanna find every last tear and musical fish; don't MAKE me do it.. That was boring as hell. Reminded me of cleaning up **** with the FLUDD. Skyward Sword just overstayed it's welcome in that regard.

well

the 6th and 7th dungeons don't touch 1-5 which were amazing

either way this game is a solid A-, and has a great soundtrack. It makes WW and TP look dumb, and has a chance at being in the same realm/conversation as OOT/MM.

That's enough to warrant acclaim. It was a good game.

Redundant isnt the right word. But your usage is still incorrect. Monophonic describes texture, not melody.

Sky Temple Keys in MP2 were worse, since you actually HAD to collect those AFTER getting everything. With the artifacts I've basically memorized each of their locations and have a set path to get them on the sequence I made to get them as fast as possible. If I'm passing by an area I would just get the artifact, for example. Really not bad at all on subsequent playthroughs, at least.
