They're not girl gamers, they're girl gamers. See the difference?

I can honestly say I was aware metroid composite was a game developer but had no idea about gender until this topic.

Yeah, this.

Hm, I think I might disagree with Ulti and Smurf about...pretty much everything they've posted ITT >_>

Ulti does have science behind his statements about girl gamers.

Girls generally have weaker spatial reasoning skills than guys, which likely translates into them not being as good as men at games.

Err...for some tasks that might be true, but there's a second study you should see about spatial reasoning. Funny thing about the spatial reasoning difference: it literally goes away when you play 3D videogames; here's the scientific reference:

http://pss.sagepub.com/content/18/10/850.abstract

Which means females playing 3D games literally have the same level of spatial reasoning as males who play 3D games (and both of them destroy males who don't play games). So...think of it as having three genders: males, females, and gamers. For 3D spatial reasoning: gamers > males > females.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I hope it's being applied in education.

'okay class, today we're going to go over genders. there's male, female, and gamer. males and females typically go to each other, but exceptions exist. gamers on the other hand are more commonly found as asexual beings. or at least, they function that way. now on to the other genders out there...'

73 genders? what the hell kind of school do you go to?

Me too, partially because it'd be hilarious. "OK kids: today we're playing Killzone 2 deathmatch!"

Nope because media says video games rot your brain so instead kids learn from worksheets! Yay! So educational!

The Castlevania HoD example is pretty bad, Radical Link. There's a lot of attachment to the characters themselves and how they're used, rather than anything about player gender. >_>

Like, Soma is the most powerful character in the entire game by a huge margin and likewise the most popular used online character. People would respond badly to you playing him because it means ANOTHER Soma player, and you might not even be set up in a good way.

Charlotte is meanwhile halfway weak and more rarely used, but she's not a detriment to the team so there's generally props for using someone unique that's cool and varied. Loot's also shared to everyone at once if anyone opens a chest, and the better the luck of the person opening a chest, the better items everyone gets out of it. Charlotte generally has the highest luck, so they want her to open the chests.

Maybe Castlevania is different, but usually if you choose a piece of crap character in a co-op game, you get grief for it, not props.

Also still doesn't explain why people get mad at me for doing poorly with Alucard. Or Jonathon. And come to think of it, I play Yoko, not Charlotte. I hate Charlotte in that game. I don't know why I thought I was Charlotte.

And yet, a couple years ago my gender leaked on B8, and these days it seems like if you ask the average B8er what they know about me, the only thing they know is my gender.

you've always been grouped in my mind as part of the "FFTactics board refugees" along with Ulti and NeoElfboy. you guys wrote a lot of interesting stuff I read through like a decade ago.

so... Auto-Potion or Blade Grasp?

Auto-Potion.

Really, this one was never especially a debate.

Ability that takes about as much time to train as CT+5+Holy (way better than any reaction ability) vs...
a 400 JP ability on a base class.

The guy who kept arguing for BG really only considered level 99 random battles, where yeah, BG is pretty good. But then again, the same guy complained about how hard Finath River random battles were, and you can destroy said fights with Auto Potion, whereas Choco Meteor ignores Blade Grasp, so... >_>
