4 hours ago, they emailed me all "we got your resume and we want to talk to you, when are you free?" and I answered "all day today and tomorrow, etc etc etc" and they said "cool, how about in 2 hours?" and I went "okay"

IBM? They're gonna get back to me tomorrow (Friday) or early next week to let me know whether I'm moving to the match-me-with-a-project phase, which is pretty much a guaranteed offer unless I self-destruct.
Well, from what I've seen, people who get to be creative tend to have a lot more fun than people who have to do the tedious stuff.
The money is amazing when you're salaried, but the amount of overtime can be exhausting, and a lot of the stuff is soulless, so it's hard to find motivation to WANT to do the overtime.
But really, as far as workplaces and perks go, it's pretty great. Just expect to be worked to the bone. Are you applying for a spot at SF HQ, or one of the satellite studios?

Neat, this is helpful. Thanks!
I'm applying to the SF office apparently, considering that I was asked if I'd be willing to work in that area.
Are you on the art side or the tech side? If you're on the tech side, what keeps you coming back? (Or if you're not can you have a friend on the tech side post what keeps them coming back?)
And how concerned should I be about all the negative press Zynga's gotten?

I'm a Mobile QA Engineer, so I'm mostly writing test plans. running test plans, and making sure everything stays working. I also manage our outsource team in Montreal.
The big difference here between people who like it and people who hate it is "Contractor vs Full Time". Full time people tend to love it because they get all the perks and their pay is ridiculous. Contractors get almost none of the benefits of the FTEs, minus the free food, and our pay is around $20/hr. Interns fall into the Contractor category, so really, working here depends entirely on how much you like doing what you're doing and how much you appreciate building your skills vs how much you value your free time and being treated like an employee.
I'm actually in the process of moving to a new job, so I won't be here much longer, but the people who do love it here, the full time employees, keep coming back because of the perks. I don't really think anything else about this place is that appealing.
As far as negative press is concerned, it's not an issue unless you're easily offended by comments made on Kotaku.

Oh, okay then. It sounds like their intern program is less than stellar, compared to other things. It's nice having a current employee say what it's actually like :D
Also, I already have an offer for $25/hr much closer to home in a much cheaper city (Houston; a place with no name recognition, though). So I may withdraw my application and maaaaaybe apply for full-time later. Thanks!
Yeah, quite a few ex-coworkers of mine work for Zynga and seem to like it.
These were also the kinds of people who do care quite a bit what their salary was, mind you, but at the same time, people willing to jump ship if working conditions weren't acceptable.
