Also yeah I respect soldiers but I don't hero-worship them or anything. I think that's just the result of a delusion. The idea that America/allies are the "good guys" and Al-Qaeda/"dem terrorists" are this formless, massive entity that the good guys are fighting to wipe out. It's like people want it to fit into a movie mould when real life doesn't work that way.

I have two good friends in the military. The people in this topic who are completely bashing soldiers as a whole appals me.


This story reminds me of the Catholic priest child abuse cases. There are probably plenty of civilians who do things like this but its not reported because its not news worthy. When soldiers do things like this its a big deal.


Some people in some group did something horrible. That happens all the time in all groups with no exceptions.

Clearly you never heard about all the fuss around the lady who threw a cat in a bin (also British news). It doesn't matter if you're a soldier or not, if you do something bad, people will be disgusted.

The real reason you hear about this kind of thing happening more in the military is simple: they have the tools to do it. Of course it's going to happen more often.
