There is something about looking at the plot of Complacency of the Learned that makes me feel like I'm looking at something CRUCIALLY F***ING IMPORTANT to Homestuck, but I don't really understand what it means!

Technically speaking, you already did when you read Hivebent. Hussie himself said ages ago on his formspring that complacency of the learned was Rose subconsciously writing the actual story of how her universe was created (Hivebent), just retold Rose-style with a wizard theme through her subconscious interpretation of the creation of the universe before she ever knew that's what it was. Note how the character on the poster even looks like a hornless and humanized troll.

Reading Roxy's further description based on the depiction in the poster though, I'm thinking the completed work also may include some mix of the creation of her universe as well, especially since a certain line seems to be referencing the sovereign slayer and events surrounding Noire.

"But his apprentice was able to beat him in the wizard's duel by first becoming checkmated, and through some unprecedented enchantment, continuing to play beyond the death of the king."

It could also just be referencing how the troll kids manage to keep on "playing" after their session was already expired.

Also, I think Hussie has decided to move on from getting people worked up about race and wants to start trolling up a battle of the sexes:

Calmasis doesn't really look very androgynous to me, but I imagine that he's intentionally trying to get people to bite on that point to redirected the race argument. "If people are calling my bluff on racially ambiguous characters, then I'll give them androgynous characters that are fictional even in-universe and probably not even relevant to the plot so that they can argue about that."

It is crucially important, just like it was when you read all about it in Hivebent... just without all of the wizards and heavy-handed... okay, I guess Hussie did preserve that as well. Still, there may be a few additions as well that might go on to explain a bit more regarding the alpha and beta universes.

Edit: I suppose we should probably expect that though since the Rose that wrote this one technically grew up in a different universe that may have had some slight differences in its creation, like uranianUmbra.

Yeah, UU is what I'm referring to when I feel like there's a really big clue here. It's the P being a caduceus, and the fact that Calmasis is referred to as androgynous. This is a big ol' clue to what's up with UU, I'm certain of it, but I still don't understand it at all.

It also says twelve guys are killed (trolls?) Don't know who the Complacency would be then, though, since it would have to be someone on the same side as the trolls.

The plot of the chess match is obviously a Sburb analogue (after Prospit loses the battle for Skaia, represented by a chess board), the heroes have to continue playing the game after their king is killed by Derse's forces. No idea what the connection to UU is but it's definitely there.

also I'm confused as to who the protagonists are in this book. the guys who are getting murdered and lose? also, since the antagonist, Calmasis represents Prospit (by extension, UU?), the protagonists represent Derse? rose, you so crazy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the character of Calmasis is supposed to draw a lot of paralels between UU and Karkat. The whole androgynous thing could also even be a way for people to associate both a masculine Karkat and a feminine (guessing) UU.

Then again, as far as we know, this could be hinting at the Homestuck plot pitting the kids from our other universes against the trolls from this set, possibly even including UU as an antagonist. Zazzerpan and Calmasis may have swapped roles depending on which universe the story was written, etc. If it didn't at least have some kind of relevance, it probably wouldn't have gotten this much coverage (especially with the caduceus in the story title) in more than just the usual fashion we get SBAHJ references.

I saw the command tag "Roxy: Black Out" and knew exactly what was coming. I was slightly disappointed when the page loaded and I just thought it was a GIF of her falling over right up until the page switched and I gave a mighty Booyah at the blackout screen. With this one action, I may be willing to forgive Hussie for removing Vriska from the spotlight.

Though it probably would have also been a good idea to put up something like, "oh yeah, boycott anyone associated with the RIAA and MPAA from now on as well sine they're the ones truly responsible for this idiocy." to give people a cause once SOPA fails spectacularly in the face of the Internet fighting back against idiotic laws that don't even do anything to stop pirates, but only inconveniences legitimate users.

I'm never any good at these but I took it to mean that the "Void" Dirk was talking about is a place made up of dream bubbles and Roxy was floating through them. This is evidenced by Rose also waking up at the end.

Of course, this is Homestuck and I'm probably forgetting something about how dream bubbles work or just missing something completely obvious.

Just for the record, Nepeta (and presumably Equius) had living eyes there. Nepeta was also her dreamself, which could definitely mean something.

May not be dream bubbles at all. Of course, it's hard to say.
