Here's the gist of Monster leveling:

- there are 5 levels of components. Depending on the quality of the monster (like 2/5 stars), you feed it components of that quality.
- If you level up a monster often enough, it will either reach its max level, or it will increase its overall quality, thus needing better components for future levels.
- There are 4 types of components to level up your monsters: one gives extra Strength, one gives extra Magic, one gives extra HP, and the last one gives extra Everything (obviously less than the bonus you get from the components dedicated to that type).
- there are mechanical monsters and organic monsters, leveled up with mechanical / organic material.

At the start, Chocolina only sells level 1/5 components, midgame she gets the 2/5 stuff as well, and now that I'm close to the end, she finally sells the 3/5 and 4/5 stuff as well.



Yesterday I bought 6000 chips at the casino, played 2000 games at the slots (hot summer day), and after 2 hours I was down to 0. Worst.Casino.Ever.

I also just found some green crystal floating in the Sunleth Waterscape. But I can't get it at all. And Mog isn't doing anything. Is there a trick to getting it?

Sure. If you want a compelling story, you probably won't get much out of XIII-2, but it's entertaining and enjoyable for what it is. The gameplay -- battle system, monster taming, sidequests, exploration -- is where the game shines. If you liked the demo, you'd probably like the full game.

Also, I'm leveling up monsters and I finally can purchase other things from Chocolina. I'm looking at Potent Silver vs Power Silver. Potent saying it increases all attributes and Power saying it does just strength. I don't seem to notice a bigger boost from Power Silver despite them costing the same thing. Is this correct...? And somehow, it just went up a grade on its own... ugh I don't understand what's going on!

I've heard this affects the AI. A Ravager with low strength will use physical attacks less often than magical attacks, for example.

FFXIII-2 beated. It took around 40 hours, and I've still got plenty of fragments left to go, plenty of monsters to catch, etc.

Best FF since FFX. Admittedly, there's not too much to contend with. Some things are slightly annoying, but still a great game. Not going to say anything more to avoid spoilers.

It was a disaster. One of, if not the worst sequences I've ever had to deal with in a jRPG.

Played a little more of this last night and I am having a lot of fun. I managed to catch a Narasimha (white Behemoth) on my first encounter with one! I can't really use him now though because I don't have any materials to level him up.

OK, you know what, yeah, bring it on. As many problems as I had with this game and its story/characters, I'm now really excited for FFXIII-3. Especially with all the loose ends, like that one character I totally called being evil.

Which will probably be a Vita game or something.

They also plan on having episode DLC related to certain characters, like Lightning and Sazh. Doubt we'll see FFXIII-3 when they can DLC 2-3 hours for $10-$15!
