From: Anagram | #099 On a slightly related note, how do you guy feel about Revengeance?
I'm pissed that they changed the story to take place after MGS4. I was so excited at first when it was supposed to be Raiden between MGS2 and MGS4, since that's what I wanted even before the game was announced.
I'll still buy it, of course. DMC mixed with MGS? Could be fun. I won't treat it as an actual MGS game, but as a spin-off, sure why not.
Revengeance is just a stupid title though.

REVENGEANCE looks ridiculously silly (to the point that I feel obligated to type the title in all caps). I'm sure it'll be a fun little experience for what it is, but it won't live up to the Metal Gear standard. I don't imagine myself getting caught up in the story or playing it over and over again like I have other games in the series.

"Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Hello' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!"
But back to better things, I wish it was easy to find that third disc of Subsistence that had all the cutscenes and stuff arranged on it. I managed to find it on YouTube not long ago, and it was pretty neat. Like, they inserted some gameplay elements in between the cutscenes and stuff.
For example, whenever there was a boss fight, they actually showed parts of the boss fight in between the cutscenes. They did a really good job with the Volgin fight. They show all the different crap Volgin can do to incapacitate you to rev up the intensity of the fight. It was really cool.

The End Obviously the best. Everything about this dude is just, wtf awesome. SO MANY things can happen in this fight. You can have a lethal sniper duel where you can search and pelt him from afar with your SVD. Or you can go the stamina kill approach, which is also really fun because you have to track him using several different methods, then sneak up on him and do what you do best. There's just a bunch of cool things about this fight. It can take anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes to win. Even when he uses his FOREST HEAL ME powers, it's like oh darn you extended the length of time I get to have fun. HOW SAD.
The Boss So much emotion. The fight itself is fun because, once again, you can go about it several different ways. If you're competent at countering her, you can pretty much CQC the crap out of her the whole way through. Which is awesome. Otherwise you can sport some snowy camo and go hide toward the edges of the battlefield and snipe her face to hell. Either way is super fun. I still haven't gotten the hang of countering her CQC perfectly yet, but I did pretty good last time I fought her. And let's not forget about the EMOTION of this fight. And if you take longer than 5 minutes, SNAKE EATER starts playing. And if you take longer than 10 minutes, YOU GET SET UP THE BOMB (game over, bro).
Volgin This fight discourages the use of weapons because the dude's electricity will strike the metal and shock the s*** out of you. CQC is the way to go most of the time. Then when you have him down on the ground, let loose with whatever you want. And then quickly retreat. This fight is close quarters and intense. It's also timed, as if you don't beat him in 10 minutes, everything blows the f*** up. He's also got some nasty attacks, and it's best to learn how to recognize what he's gonna do and then counter/dodge appropriately.
The Fear What can I say? THE FEEEAARRRRRRR! I love this dude. He's creepy and kooky. He dislocates his joints so he can walk like a spider. He coats his bolts with the venom of the most poisonous spider in the world. He's also got optical camouflage. The thermal goggles makes this fight super easy. Even without them, not that difficult. And it can be done really quick. Regardless, it's still so fun. With all the traps around in the battlefield that can either benefit or hinder you. And throwing out poisonous food for The Fear to foolishly eat and puke up, further reducing his stamina, that's always my favorite way to defeat him.
The Fury HE CAME BACK FROM SPACE. He has a jetpack and a flamethrower. This dude is pro. The area you fight him in can get a bit hectic, especially if you're on the ledge and get hit, you backflip to your doom. This is why I usually stay in the area near the door and snipe the mother f***er. People say it's difficult to find him, I never had such problem. He's usually in a corridor filled with flames, and his silhouette is pretty easy to spot through it all. Shoot him three times, he falls down, run away so he can't find you. It can get difficult, especially when he goes berserk. But I never had much problem. Even easier if you're going for a lethal kill, just shoot some of the oil drums when he's near and it takes a HUGE chunk of his life.

Little Baby Ocelot I don't know why I call him that. I have ever since my first playthrough of the game (which you can find at the bottom of my b8wiki). I thought it was funny. He's just so young. Even so, he's more awesome than he is later on, when he's all old and wrinkly. It probably has something to do with my mancrush for Josh Keaton. Anyway, this fight is pretty fun. It's straightforward, point and shoot until he's dead. You also don't have many weapons at this point, so you're pretty limited. But you can shoot down beehives, shoot a deer, shoot his hat off, initiate a duel, just a bunch of little things you can do to distract him. It's p. cool.
Shagohod Starts with a chase sequence of EVA driving a motorcycle with Snake in the sidecar, sporting some supernatural balance. This isn't actually part of the boss fight, but you can still damage the Shagohod here, making it a bit lower on life in the actual fight. After you destroy the bridge, you get the first part of the boss fight. It's pretty fun, and really easy. Just shoot the tread, then shoot the weak spot, and repeat until finish. Then you fight Volgin on top of the Shagohod, this time without infinite ammo and the safety of the motorcycle sidecar. Still easy. Volgin doesn't take much to kill, you just have to shoot the treads again and make sure to hit Volgin in the head, preferably with a sniper rifle, and it only takes about four shots. Still pretty fun!
The Pain BEEEEEEEEEEEES! You'd think this dude would just ambush Snake in the area before the pool, where it was just a closed in cave. Easy win. Luckily he's not smart. So we have a bunch of water to protect ourselves from the DEADLY DEADLY BEES. I still honestly enjoy this fight. It's simple, and there isn't much to do, but the straightforwardness of it is.... charming? I guess. Not exactly sure. I just find The Pain's over the top personality to be amusing, and the simplicity of it isn't really a bad thing. Not in my opinion anyway.

the pain was just arrogant because bees are heartless killing machines that exist only for killing, he probably never thought those monsters could be taken down by someone with merely firearms and explosives
From: ShadowHalo17 | #107 Volgin This fight discourages the use of weapons because the dude's electricity will strike the metal
Volgin is very easy to cheese with weapons and beat him. Just pull out a weapon and make him do that move where he tries to discharge all your ammo. Quickly unequip the weapon and run behind him while he's doing the move, and it won't be able to hit you because you don't have a weapon equipped. After the move's done, bust out your weapon and blast him in the back. I can beat him in less than a minute with the shotgun doing that.

If you get perfect headshots, you can kill him in two!
MGS3 is fairly rated on b8, it will probably be overrated when the 3DS version comes out since this board has the ridiculous nintendo bias, they even try to pretend no more heroes is a good game LOL
I don't think I've ever cried because of a video game. The closest I think I ever came was FFX. The ending still gives me chills to this day whenever I watch it, and I've seen it who knows how many times.
But I've noticed I've gotten more emotional as I've gotten older, so maybe replaying some of these games I played when I was younger could evoke a more emotional reaction now.
I don't think I've ever cried because of fiction, but I've felt a wet eye at various fictional events (including several during video games). I remember half of my class at school (mostly girls in the class, maybe 70/30 split) openly wept during The Elephant Man... that was awkward.

Who knew the Rivalry Rumble would be so predictable? SuperNiceDog, that's who.

Yeah FFX was pretty good too, although it was a different kind of sad.
About the blubbering - At first I was like, "wow why is this happening? Good thing I'm playing alone." But I agree that it happens more now that I'm older, same with movies.
I've played through MGS 1, 2 and 3 several times. I have NEVER played 4, nor do I know much about it. I really want to play it just to see how this **** ends. I wish they'd port it to 360 :(
But if I had to rank them from what I've played - 1 > 3 > 2
I LOVE MGS1

I remember the first time I noticed I was starting to get more emotional as I've been getting older was when I watched "Pay It Forward" about a year or so ago. By the end of the movie, I was openly crying. That was definitely one of those "Man I'm glad no one can see me" moments because I'd already seen the movie once before and didn't come anywhere close to crying!

"I can set you free, mate." "My freedom was forfeit long ago!"
I've had the same thing start happening. I cried from this youtube video a few months ago. Like, major crying to a degree I probably hadn't done since my parents split up over a decade ago

I've also gotten more emotional as I've gotten older, oddly enough. I was very emotional as a kid and cried a lot. Then when I was a teenager I stopped caring about everything and never cried. But I guess after getting my heart shattered a few times it's made me not afraid to cry, so long as no one can see me.
I teared up at the end of MGS3 and 4. Scrubs finale too. And uh... I think there were some other shows/movies somewhat recently, but I can't remember what.

FFX's ending never strikes me as too tragic though. I guess because the characters had their world saved, and kind of accepted it. Or at least they all knew it was coming.
MGS3 was just a tragic situation. At the end of the day, even if the world was saved, Big Boss couldn't really care less. He lost more than he gained that day. And then being a prequel you know the extent of his trauma based on what he did. And then that music.
It doesn't really matter how X-2 resolves because it doesn't negate FFX's ending being well written and emotional to begin with. Just because you know how it resolves later doesn't mean a scene that presents a seemingly uncertain situation can't be emotional on a later viewing!

"I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now."
I can't even lie, I teared up during the last episode of Lost while watching it during it's first airing. And that was in 2010! If a movie/tv show/video game can strike my emotional chords nowadays its top tier in my opinion.

game of the century for me so far is either MGS3 or metroid prime, I could really go either way but MGS3 is definitely amazing
I've never openly cried because of a game but MGS3 got me more teary eyed than anything else has. kind of weird because I think games should be more emotionally impactful than other media because of the interactive element, but typically the only things that make me cry are things that make me feel bad about myself and games just never seem to go into that territory
