Been a long time lurker to this forum, and finally decided to make an account. Seems like a well-knit community where everyone knows each other, so it only seems right that I open up a bit! Some basic stuff you might like to know about me:
-As you can tell by my username, I'm big into "the sports." Texans/Rockets homer all the way.
-My two life passions are music and philosophy, which puts me at the 98% percentile on the Pretentiousness Scale. Yes, I wake up every day realizing I'm working to become professionally unemployed.
-I'm fairly into Western animation, which, by extension, makes me a brony. Sorry.
-I smoke cigars, drink frequently, and enjoy gambling. I'm not a role model. Aside, best food is cheesecake.
So that's a basic picture of myself and my interests! If there's anything important I should know about this board before doing something stupid, please show a newbie around. Cheers.

I wouldn't say it creeps me out, I just find it a bit strange. I remember a few years we could make a topic saying "Calling on Lurkers" and literally dozens of people would show up for a post or two. Makes me wonder how many people are just there.

This board literally has hundreds of lurkers. I have no idea why they come to this board, though. It's like a huge collection of inside jokes from 7 years ago.

Fallacy of false cause. Simply because it is enjoyable to observe a group of people does not mean it would be enjoyable to interact with them. Way, way too many people watch reality TV to see the ways in which other people can become absolute train wrecks. Most of them would not want to live in the same house as those train wrecks. Some people may be curious as to what we talk about, that does not mean they will want to talk about it with us (if at all).

Well, I play most of the more common events pretty often (aka Hold 'Em, Roulette, Blackjack), but my personal favorite is Craps. I like how it's a perfect mix of mathematics and social interaction: there's no rush like having a table of twelve people all rooting and hollering against the house!

Watching/listening in on people in real life =/= reading someone's posts on the Internet.
If you're posting on the Internet, you should understand that anyone can read or view your posts. That's just part of it. They don't have to participate if they don't want to.
But hey. If it still creeps you out, I suppose that's your thing and I can't really criticize you for it.

The other thing is most of us lurkers aren't reading the topics where people are just casually talking to each other.
It's not like we're just reading conversations, or at least I don't. I generally just read discussion topics and will post if I have something to add. Or random topics for pictures/videos/whatever.

Except this example doesn't work because you don't notice lurkers unless they actually post.
Also, since this is the internet, more comparable would be if you hang out with friends as God livestreams your conversations.

Lots of jazz, chiptune, certain rap groups (UGK, Z-Ro, basically anybody from Texas), and I have soft spots for Bach and Wagner. Favorite artist is Coltrane; favorite band is Radiohead.
