who would you save?

Catch is you die to save that one person.

For the sake of simplicity we'll say that the person you saved won't just get bumped off the next week or so but will live out their "natural" lifespan instead.

Anyone here wanna bite the bullet for JFK?

Except something else probably would have started WW1 if that guy didn't get assassinated. Europe was the definition of a tinderbox.

Martin Luther King, for me. Far more valuable life than mine. Could still be contributing to society.
Although I wouldn't be able to do it in the moment (like, I wouldn't dive in front of the bullet, probably), only after a lot of thought.

Oh I've done quite a bit of study of World War 1. Also I'm probably as old or older than you.

And yeah chances are the web of alliances and hositility in Europe means something else would have most likely triggered the war. But there is no guarentee of that. Unless you are somehow trying to claim that the assassination of the Archduke didn't start the war, in which case you need to learn some history. But delaying and changing the initial cause could have big changes overall. I'd say that's worth my life.

Wouldn't stop any assassination even if I didn't die. Who knows what the consequences would be. Yeah, I never bought into the whole "even killing a fly can have dire consequences" tripe.

MLK, easily, and maybe Louis Farrakhan (not dead yet, but probably has a good 20-25 years left) depending on the legacy he leaves and the contribution.

This is going to sound like a really awful thing to say, but would we really be better off if MLK Jr had not died? The impact of his actions is already felt enormously, could he really have done more had he not been made a martyr? That's certainly not something I'm willing to die for, in any case.

Definitely Franz Ferdinand... only if I was able to observe the changes as a ghost. I wouldn't be fine with simply "knowing" that my death would change the world, I'd at least want to see what actually happened. Even if I was "dead" and unable to truly interact with the world again.

This. I'm mostly fine with the timeline we have now, thanks.

I mean Franz Ferdinand is a potential chance to prevent two world wars but who even knows what that would cause later down the line. Certainly not world peace.

Yeah, I mean, wars suck, don't get me wrong, but once all is said and done, a lot of good things can come from war. Western Europe is pretty stable right now, and I don't know if it would be had it not worked things out through two world wars. Would I want to change the course of history so that neither world war ever happened? I think the consequences of that today are more likely to be bad than good.

There's so much more THEY can accomplish by being alive than by being dead, too.
And I care about other people so even though I may be dead, other people will live better lives, and that's enough to justify it

MLK isn't a hero because he was a martyr.
The civil rights movement could have "ended" much sooner, and it could have gone much farther. He could have been a huge voice in other fields, as well. Occupy Wall Street could have been really interesting with a man like him. I don't know.
