Hello, my name is Chris as most people know and I am a writer. Being a writer doesn't take any amount of skill or dedication, but merely a purpose. Some writers don't find the time to put pen to paper often while others are consumed by the deep need to get rid of the things that have nested inside of their waking mind. If you like to write, then this contest is for you regardless of how skilled you think that you are.
I like helping others to write because it is a very big part of my own life, and it is a big part of so many lives. Who hasn't read a book that made a dreary day not so harsh and said to themselves "I want to write something like this" or "I have ideas of my own that I wish I'd put down on the paper."
This topic series has two categories: Competitive and Leisure. If you submit a leisure entry you will not be eligible for any prizes and the sole purpose of submission is that you want to have an excuse to write more and to express yourself and show others your thoughts. Some do not want to be critiqued and just want to write something without judgment. I will personally see to it that no judgment is passed on such entries, because every writer deserves to share their work in an environment where they don't have to feel stressed if they don't meet some invisible standard. Of course, even if your submission is leisure if you want advice it could be given.
Competitive is more along the lines of previous writing contests where people will be judged based off the 2 week prompt. Critique will most assuredly vary based off the various judges but at the same time even at its harshest it should always critique things that can be fixed about the writing and never become personal. Judges, volunteers week to week, will rank the stories and can offer as little or as much critique as they see fit. People who write stories can feel free to judge themselves as well, although their story ranking, regardless of where they rank it, won't be entered at all so it will be as if they didn't judge their own stories, omitting any bias in the judging process.
This has no end goal, nor is there a silly point system. Merely rankings that are kept and organized as it goes by. As others saw in the previous contest I take writing somewhat seriously and wish nothing but the best for those who want to write for fun or who write so that may improve upon their work.
No need to sign up or anything seeing as this is the start and all of that. If you are interested I would very much like it if you were to reply with either ideas or just saying as such so that I can get a good interest gauge.
Week 1: Due April 3rd Prompt: Cookies. Length Requirements: 800-4000 words
Reason: I like cookies, they are awesome. Some of my most inspired and popular scenes of my vast fanfiction involve the use of cookies, and always to great success. The cookies don't have to be a central theme in the work but it is expected that, at the very least, part of the scene involves cookies. You can use any style you see fit, you can make it into any genre you wish. Don't think you will impress me by making a horror story based on cookies as difficult, I've already done that before!

I might be interested in this but I'm in a class right now that involves a ton of academic writing so I might not have much time for recreational writing.

I am afraid it isn't bull****. It is a pretty simple truth, really.
People often don't write because of a crippling fear that they are bad. If you want to do something in your life related to writing it is one ting, but to be afraid to not be perfect and have that stand in the way of putting something down is a shame.

yeah, that is pretty much bull unless you believe the equally bulls*** idea that "ANYONE CAN WRITE!"
it's like belittling every actual writer's efforts in honing their craft which is a never-ending process
whether you see it as an art form or as a technical method of delivering a product, there is always a certain level of skill that must be reached for anyone to take your work seriously (or at least anyone whose learned) and to reach that level of skill also requires dedication
you can have all the "purpose" you want but without the necessary skill to pull it off and the dedication to see it through, you don't qualify as a writer

to put it simply, i guess anyone can write but not everyone can be a writer
I hope you realize, TV, that my goal in life is to become a published writer who has spend the last eight or so years spending most of his "free" time either reading or writing in an attempt to perfect my craft.
I find there is a difference between writing and writing well. I never claimed that being skilled was easy, I more than most know it is damn sure not. However at the same time I think my point holds true: You don't need to try very hard to express yourself, and that for many people is good enough and that is the essence of writing. Expression of an idea or an emotion or a whimsy.
Forgive me, I suppose I am just bemused because I have worked so hard to get the point I am at currently and work every day to improve and I didn't realize my words would belittle anyone, much less a group I could very well fall into.
I started today. Gonna polish it up a bit and submit it tomorrow
