Buffy - Season 5, Episode 5: No Place Like Home

In which Dawn is the key, and Giles opens The Magic Box.

M'kay, so now things just got really thick really fast and I haven't really made sense of it all yet. There's this crazy schizophrenic ***** monster terrorizing this monk looking for a key, and it turns out the key was just energy and they took it and made it into flesh in the form of Dawn and gave it to the Slayer to protect and Dawn has no idea she doesn't "exist" per se and *mind asplode*. Hopefully they follow up more on this and quickly.

And oh yay Giles opened his shop, and now Anya has a job and seemingly has something to do and gives her a greater position to help the gang out. That makes two people left who need increased roles (Riley and Spike). I'm not at all sure where they are going to take this "Spike loves Buffy" business, but it's quite funny in the meantime. Hopefully it is executed well. Just please give Spike something to do for gosh sakes. Riley is the boyfriend and will probably get in trouble at some point and Buffy will need to save him and that will make Riley feel really bad.

I don't know. A lot happened here, but I'm having trouble really just stating my opinions on it, since they are summed up in "oh my that was interesting I have no clue what happens from here". Lame writeup for a pretty important episode, but so be it.

Up next: I'm not sure. I might watch another Buffy.

I think I said this before, but the crossing over doesn't matter so much anymore, if you feel like seeing another Buffy right now you should just watch another Buffy IMO.

Yeah, I haven't been worrying. That was more me talking to myself. In the end, I decided to watch the next episode of Angel.

Angel - Season 2, Episode 5: Dear Boy

In which Darla is human.

So it seems like Joss and the writers decided the fifth episode of the season would be a good time to start make things intense and start dropping the big bombs. It turns out that Darla is human, which I wouldn't have expected. Her whole goal is going to be to awaken those feelings and tendencies that Angelus had, and it's fun watching her work with it. Watching the (hopeful) evolution of Darla's grief should be interesting, and seeing a more danger-seeking side of Angel should be interesting as well. All in all, I like what they've set up here.

Lindsey is still around, and I'm still rather confused by his sudden revert to Wolfram and Hart loyalty and how invested he is in all of this. I'm wondering if they'll revisit that at some point. Kate is still around, too, and still a raging *****, but for understandable reason, I guess. It was a neat scene when she was busy grilling Cordelia, Wesley, and Gunn and watching all of them, even Gunn, stay adamant in their trust of Angel.

So yeah, good stuff.

Up next: Buffy 6

Nope, S7 Buffy / S4 Angel is actually the opposite. In fact I think it's like the Angel S4 finale has to come before the last 2 episodes.

Though it really doesn't affect too much, as far as enjoyment of either show's plots go. Rephrased for increased vagueness.

Buffy and Angel were aired at the same time, and the plots interweave sometimes. Most people watched both at once when they were aired so they recommend new people to do the same to capture the same experience.

I watched them separately from each other and I ended up enjoying both of them. I don't think it really matters too much.

If you mean simultaneously like this at all: Yes. They are occurring in the same universe at roughly the same time, and they often touch on each others plots.

If you mean with all these adjustments to airing order: It's more of a convenience to not have to constantly switch between the two while still making sure events happen in the proper order when applicable.

Huh, that's weird. I would have expected that to happen the episode before but I guess it would just make people curious as to what happened on Angel which would lead to what is seen on Buffy.

But yeah, I remembered all the events just didn't realize when Angel's part happened.

Watched an episode last night, actually going to write about it within almost a day of watching it whoamg.

Buffy - Season 5, Episode 6: Family

In which Tara is a demon, oh wait, no she isn't.

So finally they address what is up with Tara, and I must say, it was more underwhelming than I thought it could be. Tara's family rolls into town and they are all enigmatic and Tara is acting all kinds of reserved because of it an Amy Adams is there. Oh and we find out that Tara is part demon and they need to take her away before she shows herself so Tara casts a spell on the gang so they don't see demons oh goodness! Oh, but then it turns out the whole demon thing is just a lie the family uses to keep the females in check. Lame.

Yeah, this episode didn't really do it for me. I enjoyed Spike coming and rescuing Buffy, but since he's an evil force, Buffy couldn't see him helping her. It was a nifty sweet kind of thing. I didn't enjoy the whole "we are a family" thing when the gang was standing up to Tara's family because it seemed really random, especially after the entire time before it everyone was talking about how they didn't really know Tara. They possibly hinted at Amy Adams being around a little more with the little staredown she had with Tara at the end of the episode, but that could just be me hoping to see more Amy Adams on my television screen.

I don't know. I think I'm just disappointed in this episode because it wasn't at all what I hoped it would be regarding Tara. I'm going to give the show some more time to expand on her a little, but as of now, I'm not happy with her direction.

Yup, this is why many people were disappointed with Tara. They have all sorts of build-up -- she appears in the dreams in Restless as a somewhat prophetic figure, she sabotages the demon finding spell -- and then it gets resolved with her being completely ordinary.

So this episode was a bit of a letdown to most viewers, just like it was for you. Sorry. =[

That's kind of the point, though. They don't know much about her, but she's still their friend and important to them, even if she doesn't think she is.

I loved that family scene at the end. Tara has been around for quite some time already, but the gang besides Willow don't actually know her that well, shown by their conversation of not knowing what the hell to get her for her birthday. "She's nice!" "Oh yeah, she's really nice!"

But in the final seen, Buffy sees just how much being a part of their group (and being with WIllow obviously) meant to her and how she desperately wanted to stay. So they realize that yes, she does belong with them.

Plus Spike was awesome in that scene.

I love Spike's method of testing the Demon thing. Hilarious. It also led to some interesting debate among fans as to whether or not that would actually be a viable way to check. Since it would seem that the chip has to use Spike's own knowledge to determine whether or not something can be hurt, wouldn't that mean taht as long as Spike believes someone is human it could theoretically go off even if they aren't?

And yeah, many people were disappointed in the Tara reveal. Unless you were a fan of TaraxWillow in which case you were happy she didn't turn evil and that the relationship can continue.

Angel - Season 2, Episode 6: Guise Will Be Guise

In which Wesley gets to be Angel and have sex.

It was fun to see Wesley take center stage and have Angel be the main comic relief for once, and Wesley displayed his competence here. It was neat to see him acting all heroic. I got kind of confused by all the characters, and who sent that one guy to take out and pretend to be the Swaami or whatever, but it's all good. This was a generally lightheared and humorous episode, in my opinion, at least after all the stuff we'd been seeing before.

I don't know. That's all I got. I watched this episode two days ago, so if you are curious about anything else, just ask.. <_<

Buffy - Season 5, Episode 8: Shadow

In which it's a tumor.

To hopefully help me make writing these a little easier, I'm going to take a more bulleted approach for the time being.

This episode started silly and took a sharp turn into the depressing. Spike is sniffing Buffy's clothes and stole some of her underwear. HAHAHA. Spike shakes Riley's confidence. AWWW. Buffy's mom has a tumor AWWWWWWWW.

I don't know what to think of this plot involving Riley doubting himself in Buffy's eyes. I did enjoy the "Riley is going to become a vampire!" tease. That was really well done.

Buffy's mom is probably going to die. Interesting.

Anya was good in this episode. I especially love how everyone kept trying to get her to take that hint to be quiet and she was being incredibly reluctant about it.

I'd love to see a little more Xander-Riley bonding. I think they could have a cool bromance for a little bit as they both struggle with being in a relationship with "different" women.

It's really sad seeing any interaction involving Dawn and her family, since they aren't really her family since she's not actually a real person. The climax of the storyline is going to be intense, and probably on the tear jerking side.

This Ben doctor guy...I'm not sure what to think of him, and I hope he doesn't start to meddle with Buffy and Riley's relationship, whether it be inadvertent or not.

Angel - Season 2, Episode 8: The Shroud of Rahmon

In which Angel drinks blood from a human.

I'm not really sure what to think of this episode.

I knew from the start that it would be Kate that Angel potentially killed. I'm not sure if I would've preferred Kate actually dying or not, though. I haven't made it a secret that she isn't my most favorite character on the show. I guess it will be interesting to see where they go with the bloodlust angle, though. Angel's slow descent into madness has been intriguing to watch.

Poor Wesley and Cordelia. That wasn't the first time they've had the conversation of "oh hey we did good but bad at the same time hmmm". It must be tough working for a vampire.

Buffy - Season 5, Episode 9: Listening to Fear

In which a killer snot monster from outer space kills the mentally ill.

Powerful scene at the end there, with the doubt of whether Buffy's mom will be around for much longer or not. I think she pulls through, but I wouldn't be surprised either way. It'd be interesting to see how Buffy goes about her life without her only parent. Perhaps we'll see the emergence of her father, which could be interesting. It'd be kind of annoying, though, to have the "Buffy is the parent figure of Dawn" deal that is going on currently be magnified 10x. I guess we'll have to see what happens.

Riley has started letting vampires suck his blood, or something. Interesting. Also, he was very secretive about enlisting help from The Initiative, who don't seem all bad anymore. We'll have to see where this goes. Part of me feels like it's leading to a "Riley becomes a vampire" storyline, which I'd be interested in to see if they draw any parallels between Angelus and Riley, and to see how Buffy would react.

I got joy out of seeing Xander proudly read off the information about the Queller demon. Good for him at succeeding at research.

Spike kind of just showed up at the end of the episode randomly, though I guess in a funny manner. It was interesting how he was the one to help out Buffy, despite only being on screen for maybe a total of five minutes this episode, whereas Riley showed up too late. Fitting for where they were going with him. But it's fun seeing Spike willingly helping Buffy now. A neat look.

I suspected during the middle of the episode that it was Ben who summoned the Queller demon, right around when Riley said that Ben told him Buffy's mom had been released. I figured it was just someone to pin the demon's summoning on because Ben cared about getting more room in the hospital, but apparently he actually has a relationship with Glory. I like that. Let's see where it goes.

Another person finds out that Dawn is not real. Interesting take from Buffy's mom there, on how Buffy needs to love her like Joyce loves Buffy. I'm glad they didn't pull the typical "Dawn was listening in the corner and now knows OH NO" that I was expecting throughout that entire scene.
