From: Jakyl25 | #049 I think if they're gonna use Victory Road this way, then it makes perfect sense to also use it as a guinea pig for tinkering with the PPV model.
If they want to book it the way it was booked and call it The Road to Lockdown and charge, say, $20 for it, that's completely acceptable. It's a way to say "This is more important than an episode of Impact, but not as important as a real PPV."
Although if you're gonna do that, you probably don't want to end the PPV with an angle that leaves everyone feeling dirty and gross.
I don't see this happening. I feel like for the average middling TNA PPV, the audience they are going to get is pretty set. It's basically the "wrestling completionists" like you, and THAT'S IT. If you and people like you are going to buy it anyway, why should they charge less money?

This is a fair point. If they get, say, 8000 buys at $35, I doubt they'd even get 9000 buys for $20.

- WWE World Champion Daniel Bryan is currently dating WWE Diva Brie Bella, and it looks like that will come to WWE TV in some form.
WWE recently started an angle between Bryan's sotryline girlfriend and the Bella twins. Last week on WWE Smackdown, Bryan stopped Brie Bella from making her switch with Nikki during her match with AJ. WWE.com made mention of this, noting that Bryan did that because he was still "emotionally scarred" by breaking up with the Bellas.
Previously on WWE TV, Bryan had an angle involving the Bellas, where they wanted to date him and be his first time when they thought he was a "virgin." They eventually found out that he was dating Gail Kim, and was in fact a "vegan."
Brie Bella has also posted several images of her and Bryan together (and making out) on their website, so the relationship is now public.
AJ works perfectly in a Miss Elizabeth 'Why is this normal girl hanging around an idiot' way. The Bellas are just generically evil. They'd be Scary Sherri, except not half as good

Well good thing there's 2 of them then, maybe combined they equal one Sherri.
This reminds me: Daniel Bryan should totally win King of the Ring this year.

I thought they only give it to people they're upset with because they think making them go out in a crown and scepter is embarrassing. My guess is it goes to The Miz.

That only happened one time!
Granted, it was the most recent time, but still.
Just imagine Bryan suddenly adopting the use of the royal "we."

WWE Raw on Monday, March 19 scored a 3.09 rating, down two-tenths of a rating from a 3.27 rating last week. It was the lowest rating since the February 13 episode - the Raw before Elimination Chamber.
Raw averaged 4.38 million viewers, down nearly ten percent (450,000 viewers) compared to last week's show. It was the fewest viewers in five weeks dating back to Feb. 13.
Raw averaged 4.49 million first hour viewers, then Raw actually declined to an average of 4.27 million viewers in the second hour, despite John Cena vs. Mark Henry with Rock's appearance and a show-closing Undertaker-Triple H-Shawn Michaels segment. It was the fewest second hour viewers since the January 9 Raw against the BCS National Title game.
Ouch.

those ratings mean that we need more dragon matches for the 10 o'clock slot obviously. or punk. or both, again.
also i totally forgot TNA had a ppv. got it, watching it now, and that Aries match was so, so good. it's great how the crowd and announcers are hyping the man up so hard. Aries is on board to being the next guy from ROH to be a world champion... if they let him. of course right now the x division is in such a great position due to him that it's hard to go differently about this. great stuff.

daniels always can use a worthless title to pad his resume. that'd work. also i am not sure how to respond to that ending. half the time i thought he was gonna make out with dixie or something.

I really really would have liked at least some establishing shot of, say, Bully Ray and James Storm fighting again backstage to explain why Storm never came out to help.

So, whose reign did Aries pass to get the #1 x-div reign? I have to assume it was AJ. In which case an "AJ returns to the X-division to defend his title against AA" would be so ****ing epic.

If they re-hire Vince Russo between now and then, sure.
But then again they've done a pretty poor job building Storm vs. Roode. It's such a natural feud and it made sense from the day of Roode's heel turn that it should pay off at Lockdown, but along with that comes, you know, actually properly building the match in the interim.
It's TNA's version of Rock vs. Cena.

I actually think Rock/Cena is ending up pretty okay. It was looking bad for awhile there, but right now as of this moment I think it's delivering exactly what it promised to its full potential.

Oh I agree, but it still remains pretty damn pointless to set it in stone so early and then barely bother to touch it until post-Elimination Chamber.
Same here with TNA. I have no doubt that the build between here and Lockdown should be good, but if they only had like 8 weeks of material total then they should have just blown it off at Genesis.

I'm gonna go with what was pointed out at the time. That announcing it then meant that Rock couldn't back out without taking a huge PR hit. I think that's a totally legitimate concern.
Also, it WAS a fairly original concept, and I never like to criticize companies for trying something new. So now they tried it, it was dumb, and presumably they know not to do it again!

Right. I'm not criticizing the concept of announcing Rock vs. Cena a year in advance or the concept of doing a 6-month build to Roode vs. Storm in a cage. I'm just comparing the poor executions of both.

hm... not sure on the specific announced match but it's no doubt been done. year long builds don't happen often, but right before cena/rock we did have steen/generico, and as time passed it became clear that this was going final battle-to-final battle.
--
The King Wang. Listen up Urinal Cake. I already have something that tells me if I'm too drunk when I pee on it: My friends. - Colbert.
But yeah I don't have any recollection of an actual announced match for that far in advance. The fact that it was ANNOUNCED instead of PRESUMED is kind of the point, inasmuch as now the build is a lot less natural. But it still was an experiment that I agree was interesting enough to try once.

Well, no, more of a storytelling exercise, hard mode edition.
There WAS a natural match between Cena and Rock after WM. They legitimately built one, and (had Rock been available and willing) could have easily had their (first?) match happen at Extreme Rules 2011 and it would have been entirely organic.
Instead, they chose to DELAY the encounter until WM 28, and thus had the challenge of finding ways to keep it bubbling on the back burner while Cena was off doing other things in the meantime.
They failed, but still that's not to say that a BETTER creative team couldn't have pulled it off.

Thank you, Eddie Guerrero. http://bryandanielson.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/photo3.jpg
Well that just leaves us in the exact same predicament we're in now, just with less downtime.
Heated rivalry ready to explode...but it has to wait a few months...because...they say so?
It doesn't matter if it's a 5 month wait until Summerslam or a 12 month wait until WM, it still faces the same issues of "creative only has about 8 weeks worth of material for this storyline"
--
Thank you, Eddie Guerrero. http://bryandanielson.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/photo3.jpg
i disagree greatly with that sentiment. yes, they did legitimately build a feud with each other, and yes, they could've done the very next match. i do agree however that they shouldn't have there.
instead it should've been true to itself, the rock isn't a wrestler anymore, cena is. the rock loves the business but he also loves his current career. cena would goad on the rock, trying to convince him, and they'd build it that way - they'd build the return of the rock to the ring instead of just randomly throwing him in a tag match. they'd build some of his in-ring credibility back. it's fine to give him some safe guys that are low early on (e.g., Slater would be a perfect fit for his entry-level jobber), some interaction with people backstage. you know, some genuine 'return to the company' story there. doesn't have to take much of any time either.
then you'd have the survivor series tag match. and there, at the end, rock asks a laid out cena if he remembers the question asked the day after wrestlemania - if the rock vs. john cena on the grandest stage of them all can happen. and then he accepts.
there, much better feud. you tease your year long match and then fill in the holes to make it happen (because backstage you already know it's happening but want to make it have some natural progress).
