We totally thought Obright was going to buy it this episode. However, the moment Remi volunteered to go fix the cannon, I knew that we had misread the death flag. It was her we should have been worried about. Poor Obright :( Secondly: Are there any Magicians 8 left? I lost track, but I THINK they all died Thirdly: Is Zehart dead? I couldn't tell if he was going to burn up in the atmosphere, or if Dole had somehow rescued him last minute. I guess we'll find out soon. I guess Minmay got what was coming to her, shame Kaifun didn't get vaporized :( 8/10 is the raw score 7/10 is the score adjusted for today's standards I felt the ending would have been perfect at 27, they could have just switched that with episode 36 and this could easily be a 10/10 show. But I've come to realize that shows from that time period tend to have recap episode, and monster of the week episodes to pad out their numbers. Many shows now are 12/24/50 length shows with no episodes wasted. Like AGE for example, no recaps and arguably no filler/monster of the week episodes. I usually don't count animation quality against old shows, because they are probably cutting edge graphics for their time. That is pretty recent. 00 and Seed also have recap episodes, and those are recent as well. I can only speak for Gundam, but the older shows, such as the original, Z and ZZ did not have recap episodes. it was only until the mid 90s, with Gundam Wing that they started doing that. Adaptations of shonen manga are notorious for doing this though, As for Seed. Only 3 more episodes left, so I'll probably finish that show tomorrow. Maybe that's why companies started to adapt the 12/24 model now instead of the 25/50 model. They take out the recap and make it a special episode that doesn't count towards the total. I liked both versions of the story, but I liked the original's "triangle" better. I kept hoping the song would come from Minmay's heart, a song of longing for Hikaru's love. Misa is the champ in both so it's all good! Something that irked me about the movie was how Milia just suddenly shrunk and Max got a suit just like hers in the final battle! And even after that it was still dreadful. So much J-drama bullcrap. Any scene with her really brought down the episode. And why does she get the Newtype death of the series anyway? She's just a god damn normal person. Nothing Newtypeish about her in anyway. It's like they were going down a checklist of tropes and realized "oh crap, we forgot to have a Lalah death, let's just have Fllay do it" The cast is probably the most boring in the franchise. Kira is an alright protagonist, but I'd rank him miles below pretty much everyone. Athrun is a bit more interesting, but his characterization shifts all the time. Pretty much the only characters I liked to any significant degree were Ramius, Mwu and Cagalli and Andrew. Badriguel also had some okay moments. The villains: I thought it was kind of pathetic that Athrun's dad was killed by some random dude. They probably did it just so that Athrun wouldn't have to commit patricide. le Klueze. Probably the worst Char Clone in the franchise. He's barely even a Char clone, other than the fact he has a mask. I will say that his final duel with Kira was pretty sweet, but really, was there even a rivalry between them, up until like the final episode? He didn't do anything until the very end, and what he did do was pretty lame. The mech designs were pretty good, but I wasn't a big fan of the federation's MSes. Too many Gundams as well (definitely the most in the franchise by a long shot).
