I'm going to be streaming a preview run of a game that I've been designing over the last year for some friends, I thought it would be cool if anyone from board 8 wants to check it out. this will be starting in about 5-10 minutes. it's an adventure/puzzle game made in RPGmaker, sort of like Yume Nikki if you're familiar with that (it's where I drew about 75% of my inspiration from, I'll admit).
do you guys mind waiting for a minute? that guy was supposed to drop a key and for some reason he didn't. I'm going to cut off the stream for a second and fix it.
the final game will probably be released mid-summer. I want to do a lot of testing beforehand because with a game like this it's very easy for glitches to slip past my detection. like, I always know what needs to be done to advance, but usually in the past when I've had people playtest the game they'll do one wrong thing toward solving a puzzle and that gets them locked up so they can't advance, or sometimes if a player does something I didn't really think of it'll cause a weird glitch.
just tonight while playing I found two strange glitches alone that I'll need to go back and fix, the major one being that D-2 Key not appearing when it was supposed to (which is weird because that is something that I had finished like literally 8 months ago. I go back now and something new I guess is interfering with it)

you saw what White Eyes is used for, so I'll talk about Time Flow a bit. the timeshifting ability isn't actually supposed to be available till later in the game, but I picked it up using a debug tile because I thought there was a chance I'd get to Hotel Cat's Hell (sequel to the Hotel Cat dungeon puzzle, like how the Color Hell is unlocked after you beat the Color Zone) within the hour and the timeshift ability is required to beat that puzzle

keeping White Eyes on drains your Innovation, and once you run out you have to go back to the PC in Jordan's room to restore your stats
and yes, the picture changes when you enter the Fairy Zone. there's a special unlock that allows you to keep the Fairy Portrait as well but it's another thing I didn't do in this preview run

did you make the music?
no, I used open source music which is really disappointing actually since everything else in the game is made by me with the exception of the tileset and the character art which I've had a friend helping me with. I've been looking for someone to help make music for the game, since I'm no good at it, but so far there hasn't been anyone who delivered on that end.

there needs to be one for Frequency since it's the first ability any player should be getting and you'll use it throughout the entire game. I mean, lets face it. if you were stuck in a puzzle world and had the ability to shift dimensions, you'd abuse it to solve every puzzle imaginable, right? that's kind of the feel I went for in this game. if I give a character a fantastic power, I want them to be able to use it in any situation. later in the game there's going to be multiple ways to tackle puzzles based on which ability you choose to use, and I may try designing a complex puzzle that requires a co-operation of time and dimensions shifting as well as elemental control (one of the powers you guys didn't get to see)

yep! in fact, there is barely any dialogue in the game. as I said, one of my major inspirations was the game Yume Nikki. however, I felt that without ANY dialogue or narration that game felt a little bit TOO empty, so I went as minimalist as possible while still including a tiny bit of narration and some very, very rare sections of dialogue. most of the game is exploration and puzzle solving.
