12. What A Cartoon!/The Cartoon Cartoon Show (1995-2002)

This one is a controversial addition to the list because it is not usually considered to be an official part of the Cartoon Cartoons. However, it does have Cartoon Cartoon in its revised name, it was constantly shown as part of CCF After Hours, and many of the Cartoon Cartoons got their start as pilots in this show, so I'm including it out of respect. The original run from 1995-1997 included 48 Cartoons created by Hanna-Barbera studios that included pilots for shows such as Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo, shorts of classic H-B cartoons, such as The Flintstones, and some completely new one-and-done shorts. As the years progressed, the losing pilots from Big Picks 1 and 2 and Cartoon Cartoon Weekend were added to the rotation, which is why I put the end year as 2002. And honestly, a lot of these shorts were pretty funny. I don't think anybody could forget Kenny and the Chimp, and it's great to be able to watch Kitty Bobo or Swaroop again. Ultimately, however, this is just a show of a bunch of pilots that didn't get picked up, so it's hard to rank it any higher among actual shows (it'd be like placing Oh Yeah, Cartoons! in the top 10 on a Nicktoons list). One thing of note, in addition to several Cartoon Cartoons, one more famous animated program that everyone here knows and loves (or hates) got its start on What A Cartoon! A short entitled Larry and Steve about a dim-witted, middle-aged man and an intelligent, anthropomorphic dog, both voiced by Seth McFarlane, evolved into Family Guy.

11. Whatever Happened to Robot Jones? (2002-2003)

Robot Jones premiered as a pilot in 2000 for the first Big Pick. Although it lost to Billy and Mandy, it was well-received enough that it was eventually picked up. And it ended up being a cute little program about a young robot going to junior high school with humans, having to deal with the same thing that any normal junior high student has to. A little generic, but the charm really comes from its heavy 80s influence, both in art-style and sub-plots (kids being fascinated by Rubik's Cubes, Pac-Man, etc.). Not the most interesting or funny of Cartoon Cartoons, it certainly kept my interest and I would like to see a DVD release. Sadly, due to creative differences between the Network and himself, the creator pulled the plug on the series out of frustration, leaving it by far the shortest-lived Cartoon Cartoon at just 14 episodes plus a 7-minute pilot. Even to this day it is hardly rerun.

Best Character: Principal Madman

Madman's hatred of technology, ever-increasing frustration with Robot Jones and just general cluelessness made him the funniest character on the show. Plus his Hitler mustache hilariously got by the censors.

Worst Character(s): Lenny and Denny Yogman

For a show that takes place in junior high, bullies were obviously going to be the primary villains, but these two guys were just obnoxious and unfunny rather than ruthlessly mean.

Robot Jones was pretty cool! The 80s style seemed very authentic. It looks like YouTube has several episodes, so I'll probably watch one or two for kicks later.

I think Megas XLR might be my favorite Cartoon Network program ever. Aside from [AS] stuff, of course; I think The Boondocks tops it, in that case.

10. I Am Weasel (1997-2000)

I Am Weasel is kind of a strange case here, because it actually started as part of Cow and Chicken, but when they decided to spin it off into its own show, they took all of the segments out of Cow and Chicken episodes and added them to the regular I Am Weasel rotation. And Weasel ended up lasting longer than Cow and Chicken, and towards the end of the CCF days was shown more often (particularly, in the popular early 2002 lineup, it was featured in the regular CCF block, while C&C was relegated to "After Hours"). Anyway Weasel seems to get a lot of hate here, but I personally find it pretty entertaining. Sure, it lacks the charm of a lot of the other Cartoon Cartoons, the humor is a little dry, and, on the whole, the characters aren't that great, but it featured some of the most outrageous plotlines in any Cartoon Cartoon (and that's really saying something), and one character in particular kept me coming back for more every time. Not exactly the most popular Cartoon Cartoon, I'm certainly not expecting a DVD release anytime soon, but I would not be opposed at all to bringing reruns back to the Network.

Best Character: I. R. Baboon

I'm excluding The Red Guy for this award here, mainly because he's just a crossover from Cow and Chicken, and besides, Baboon truly was the star of this show, even if Weasel was the titular character. About 80% of the entertainment in this show came from Baboon f***ing up Weasel's plans (and sometimes even making them succeed further). One of the great lovable dumbasses of the Cartoon Cartoon family.

Worst Character: Loulabelle

Really, none of the characters other than I. R. and Red Guy are all that appealing, but I guess I'll give this to Loulabelle for being nothing but a token hot assistant.

I Am Weasel was a big step up from Cow and Chicken, mainly because of how good Weasel's voice actor was. I never cared much for Baboon or Red Guy, though; and it was still one of the weaker Cartoon Cartoons for sure.

9. Dexter's Laboratory (1996-2003)

I'm gonna get a ton of hate for putting Dexter so low, not even in the top half. And I admit that before I started this list I expected it to be much higher as well. But I cannot rightfully put it above any of the 8 that are still to come. Dexter's Lab was great for its time, but it really hasn't aged well. Part of the reason for that is that it just wasn't that good after it came back from cancellation in 2001 (even after having the perfect series finale that is now the series fauxnale). Mandark was an okay villain, but I would've rather liked to have seen some older, evil genius scientist, and not a kid whose most memorable quality is his nasally, rhythmic laugh. Dexter himself was a pretty good character, and his parents were hilarious, but the best character will, as usual, be described below. Of the two sideshows, only The Justice Friends was anything worth writing home about. I barely remembered anything about Dial M For Monkey. On the plus side, the show was pretty funny at times, mostly due to one character, and definitely kept my attention. In the end, it was just a bit too bland to compete with the top half. Now I'm going to take a shower, and when I return I fully expect that there will be doom and gloom while things go boom in this topic.

Best Character: Dee Dee

Sure, she could get annoying at times, but the best part of the show was seeing how Dee Dee would f*** things up this time. Plus she often outsmarted Dexter, if accidentally, which was pretty cool.

Worst Character(s): Monkey's team

For being completely unmemorable, while the rest of the characters were pretty fun on the whole.

Personally I only disagree with so far are Evil Con Carne / Dexter placement and MAYBE KND though probably not. I found Evil to be the better of the combo and I'm a member of the Cow and Chicken hater club and can't place Dexter below that by any stretch of imagination.

Also I don't get how you can remember The Justice Friends and not Dial M For Monkey. While I remember The Justice Friends being funny the only two episodes I actually remember is Val Hallen's closet and the Dorito in Crunk's teeth. While with Dial M For Monkey I can play the Rasslor (especially) and Simion episodes in my head in probably near perfect detail and remember almost every other episode. Maybe that's just because the little guy touched my heart though.

This seems like something you'd know. Why did they end up changing the voice of Robot Jones? I remember there being a more robotic voice when it first aired but then after they finished or at least got further along they went back and gave Robot Jones a more boy like voice. Only time I remember something like that happening really.

I can understand lowering Dexter's Lab a little because of its auxiliary cartoons, but it is still a top 3/4 Cartoon Cartoon. And of course, the longer you go before placing Cow and Chicken, the more this list continues to fail.

Edit: and what the hell at Dee Dee being the best character?!?!
