~ Joffrey was way outclassed. No one has yet to gather more than 5 votes on Jaime in this tournament. This guy has some game. BUT...
~ Arya is no pushover She's taken out Robb and Stannis back-to-back. I don't know if she can beat Jaime but she sure as hell won't get below 5 votes. Next round match up is going to be stellar.
(1)Tyrion Lannister - Sansa's a terrific character, but this is the end of the line. Both have been average in a book (5 and 1) and really good fun in a book (2 and 4), but Tyrion's highs were higher and Sansa's lows lower. (3)Theon Greyjoy - Jon's a fantastic POV character, possibly the most consistently fun POV character across the books, but Theon's progression is just brilliant.

Tyrion Lannister. Theon. Ugh...I don't really like either too much. I guess Theon is a better character, and I really should hold being ugly on the show against the character when he's pretty cool in the books.
(1)Tyrion Lannister - Tyrion's way more interesting than his wife, and less annoying as well.
(1)Jon Snow - Jon can be a little bland sometimes but he's pretty good overall, probably the closest the series has to a traditional protagonist (after Ned). Theon... well, based just on the books I pretty much hated him. ADWD and the show have made me more sympathetic to him than I was before, but he's still not in Jon's league.

Theon_Greyjoy | Posted 4/25/2012 4:33:14 AM | message detail | filter | (edited) | #031 His lines are fantastic for one. I love his sense of humor, which he's "technically" not supposed to have.
If you want good lines, his opponent Arya easily dominates the field (except maybe Tyrion). Like the comment you quoted about "he's welcome to try" to hurt him seems like pretty generic tough guy talk... it earns him a few badassery points but I definitely wouldn't consider it anything special. Plenty of people in other stories have used the exact same line. On the other hand, I've never heard of anything like Arya's litany before, and I get chills when I read it.
Stannis is pretty easy to sum up, he's basically honorable but unbending and sees everything in black and white. If he were a POV character it might be interesting to see him try to negotiate a complex situation with his inadequate worldview. But as a non-POV character he basically comes across as static and predictable. Arya is way more dynamic and complex, which makes her more interesting to read about. The stuff where she travels with the Hound is some of the best material in the whole series because of the way their relationship develops, and the similarities between them.

"Congratulations Thomas and Sylvia! But their happiness does not continue long..."
I've only read up to the second last book (although IIRC she's not in the last one due to the geography) but I felt more and more like she was in the running for the most interesting remaining plotline at that point.
(1)Jon Snow
I get the impression from people who just watch the show that Theon is memorable there. In the books, I remember him going home to the islands, islanders being like "lol, you're a loser" and islanders being pretty much right every time. Wouldn't be my pick for favourite islander, honestly.

Did you read ADWD?

In the other answer-explanation he said he hadn't done, if that helps ;).
"Stannis is pretty easy to sum up, he's basically honorable but unbending and sees everything in black and white."
I think that simplifies his character a lot. It ignores the presence of Melisandre in his life, his pseudo-friendships with Davos and Jon, his relationships with his brothers which for me are both fascinating, and above all his rigid social awkwardness. Also, you say he's predictable - did you see what happened at the end of book 3 coming? 'Cause I sure as hell didn't.
I'm not sure he's better than Arya still, and I only voted for him safe in the knowledge Arya would win anyway, but you're selling him a bit short here in my opinion is all.

Stannis is not really an interesting character whatsoever. He's predictable, rigid, and often outright stupid. The characters that surround him tend to be much more interesting than him. And to top it off, he's just completely unlikable.
It's kind of disappointing that Stannis is one of the few leaders yet that we feel like we have to root for, because I would've taken any of the other 'sympathetic' ones over him.
