I'm not sure how to feel.

On the one hand if it's a state law, they should be allowed to make their own state laws without having other people butt in.

On the other hand, the law just seems.... wrong. Banning gay marriage is bad enough, but this seems like it's trying to force gay couples out all together as opposed to "It's fine just as long as you don't get married". Aren't straight couples who don't marry going to be effected by this as well?

All I can say is I don't think I like North Carolina anymore.

It may be unconstitutional. The US Supreme Court is going to have to rule on these amendments somewhere down the line. Maybe with Prop 8- the 9th Circuit found it unconstitutional (on narrower grounds that would not apply to this NC amendment, because the NC amendment also does away with civil unions). The Prop 8 decision is likely going to be appealed to the US Supreme Court, which may rule on the constitutionality of all these laws.

Oh man, just imagine a national ban on extramarital sex. With the penalty being revocation of voting rights. We could get rid of the Democratic Party's power in one fell swoop!

You say this as if Newt Gingrich wasn't just a potential candidate for the Republican Party's presidential nomination.

Also, State's Rights is a dumb argument that dumb people use to argue against both gay marriage and the Civil Rights Amendment. 10th Amendment is cool, but not when it's used to deny people rights.

It's also the argument that northern liberals used to argue against the fugitive slave law.

But no, your revisionist history is cool too.

Well you're still wrong.

Blue states used it to argue for LEGALIZING gay marriage. Oregon uses it for assisted suicide. California uses it for medical marijuana. All of those things would be illegal if left entirely up to current federal law.

I'm sure the politicians could think of a way to protect themselves. Maybe something like, any act of any member of Congress that helps them relate to another person in any way shall be deemed to an essential and necessary part of their Congressional duties. As such, under the US Constitution, they shall not be subject to arrest for the performance of their duties.

They don't, because they, like you, have been brainwashed by the media and by statist government schools to believe just that: That "state's rights" is an argument used by racists to advocate for a return to slavery and nothing more.

That being said, someone who DOESN'T believe in "state's rights" should be fervently against California legalizing marijuana or New York legalizing gay marriage or Chicago refusing to enforce immigration law.

Not really. One side of that is arguing for rights that are currently denied (and I firmly believe that it should be a right to toke up pot in the privacy of your own home, if you so choose). The other is arguing for denying certain people fundamental rights under the grounds of their sexual orientation

He's saying that state should be allowed to allow gay marriage, but not allowed to disallow it.

Well if you're only allowed to make ONE decision, it's not really a decision at all, now is it? It's just a soviet election at that point.

Because it is immoral, and North Carolina is a very Christian state. To go a step further (the non religious aspect) marriage is to be between a man and a woman. Nothing more, nothing less.

If person A went "Gay marriage is ruining marriage" and person B went "but you were just divorced!", then that counts. If person A goes "gay marriage is ruining the sanctity of marriage" and person B goes "marriage has no inherent sanctity, and here are some examples of that" that is not an example of tu quoque.

I took it as Person A saying "gay marriage is ruining the sanctity of marriage" and person B goes "Straight people are already doing that" which is tu quoque
