Board 8 is full of smart people, but when I read those topics it's almost depressing.

Politics is not about "doing what's best for the world", though, although many people deceive themselves into thinking that it is. It's not that Board 8 is particularly immature, dumb or bad for discussion; it's that the parts of our brains that think about politics are also the parts which excel at hypocrisy, at 'posing', at identifying with tribal leaders. So almost by definition can't get "good" discussions on politics and it's pointless to try.

The good news is that it's also pointless to worry about people being dumb when they talk about politics! I mean, it's not as if they can help it, much like people can't help walking instead of flying or getting surprised at loud noises, people similarly can't talk about politics in a constructive way.

I've got three things to say.

1) WTF @ the Anagram jab in the OP. He's one of the funniest users here, and he's never had a bad thing to say about anybody. I've never understood all the flack the guy gets. I do understand how Ayuyu could grate on people's nerves, though.

2) Strahax/BALLIN is objectively the worst poster on this site, and every thread he's ever posted is an affront to comedy. Sadly, though, a good chunk of the "random threads" on this board have been his, which has definitely hurt B8's cause.

3) This is hands-down one of the funniest things I've ever read on this board:

it's not a 'jab', it's just a reality. what I said is absolutely true - they're the only ones who really make random social topics anymore and nobody on the board really wants to socialize with them because of how they act. and Anagram and Ayuyu are both annoying for the same exact reasons so if you're saying you can understand why one of them is hated but not the other, you're clearly just being biased.

lol, seriously. I never got why people do this. if someone is being ostracized by the entire board they probably did something that made people mad. whether they 'deserve' the treatment or not is up for debate maybe.

I think that's one of the problem of this board, people care too much about what other users they'll never meet IRL for the most part think about them, I feel that a lot of them restrict the things they post because of this.

also people romanticize the past naturally, it's not like this board was leagues better when we were all less mature.

though b8chat has definitely sopped up some of the social activity here. so has the decline in popularity of text based walkthroughs (why people come to gfaqs in the first place) and people leaving b8 to get a job/get a life.

When literally every other troll on B8 is just "post something stupid, XFD @ the opposition for the rest of the topic", it's not hard for Smurf to come out on top.

Either way he by far did more to make this board entertaining than anybody else, by far. Trolling, TONS of projects (from contests to RPGs), online gaming (miniputt the best), and even on the social side there was the whole The Crew clique awesomeness.

May not be my favourite guy since he did cause me a bunch of trouble, but Smurf is without a doubt my pick for being the greatest contributor to the board.

gosh, now I feel like I probably should have worded this differently. I don't actually think this meeting took place guys, it just always seemed to me like the board started hating palmer overnight and I never heard the reason until now.

Uh... I'm not one of the people who dismisses calling users out on stupid stuff as "trolling," but there are definitely users here who try to rile other users up because they find it hilarious if those users get "mad." If you find entertainment in this, more power to you, but I don't.

In hindsight Smurf's trolling was awful and I hate that younger me fell for it so easily.

Smurf is genuinely a miserable waste of human skin though, literally at a gutter trash kind of level. And that's ignoring the "trolling". So I can sort of see why he went in for it so much, guy just had nothing else because of how bad he is in almost every way.

I think if we're talking successful trolls Vlado is the undisputed #1. Vlado has been going for 8 years and he still draws people in. It's incredible.

But yeah, I want some A+ drama. I remember getting really bored of that pikaness s*** though, so maybe I DON'T. I guess it would have to be the right kind of drama, and it couldn't drag on for too long.

It's not about wanting random people online to like you - it's that if one incident happens, you may not be able to make a single post without that subject coming up every time. I've been through it, every post I made would just be scoffed at and derailed to a topic about users instead of the actual discussion. You just can't be enjoy the board for a while, that's why I had to hold back a lot of posts for a while.

Another thing is, Board 8 literally can stalk you down and tell your real life acquaintances about you and this has happened multiple times. This is another reason I've held back making a few topics - we've got some real 4chan-like users here and all it takes is one.

there is literally a grand total of 1 person that gets drawn into Vlado topics, and that's Lightning Strikes.

Vlado is not one ounce better than any of the other plethora of gutter trolls this place is flooded with - he literally started taking cues off of them and degraded into an "xfd" troll. Then of course there's his tired gimmick of just ^5ing every poll option that's anti-Nintendo.
