Why would anyone pay for an older version of the game that lacks the mod support that is the only thing keeping said game alive?

I'd put down money that the majority of PC Minecraft users still play unmodded

The 360 version looks much more accessible and has split screen multiplayer, which is pretty cool.

I'd probably prefer the PC version, but don't act like the 360 version has no appeal.

Also, PC version is like $25

These are decent points, they DID do a few nice things with recipes and split screen always makes local multiplayer a possibility...

The fact remains though, that vanilla minecraft gets boring after a while. It is like buying a bucket of basic legos whereas mods are all those shiny neat shaped or transparent pieces that add depth to your creations.

Even simple things like texture packs or reskins add a fair amount, let alone things like remote controlled vehicles or jetpacks or zeppelins or complete overhauls of the game mechanics which turn it into an rpg complete with classes exp dungeons and loot....

And with the PC version you can also dabble in the world editor for massive reshaping of your minecraft world which makes constructing adventure maps or other type things much easier and faster than constructing by hand would take. Hell, can't even do adventure maps at all on the 360 version....whole avenues of community interaction are lost.

Also map size.
PC world limit: 68,719,476,736 x 68,719,476,736
360 world limit: 852x852

I had no interest in the PC version (mostly because I try and avoid PC games generally) because I couldn't be bothered faffing about with mods and servers. When I saw the 360 version had both splitscreen and Live support I bought it straight away. Been playing 2-player with one friend and got a four-player local game on Thursday organised. These are people who would have never bought Minecraft otherwise.

Also, been trying to arrange an 8-player game with some guys on Board 8, but everyone's being useless >_>

We're useless because most of us have the PC version of Minecraft. Also, we don't usually just meet to play at a certain time. We tend to just keep a server up and join it whenever. Servers are up for weeks or months at a time.

The idea of a split screen minecraft game or meeting up to play together just baffles me.

My friends and I have a server together that we all play on... but like Zachnorn said, its up for weeks at a time as we expand whatever it is we are building. Honestly, the interactiveness of Minecraft multiplayer isn't so much "playing together" as it is being like "hey come look at this awesome thing I just made over here."

It's a sand box game that I spend hours and hours creating in. It's good if you guys are enjoying the 360 version but I honestly do not know how Minecraft the way I play it could translate to that medium.

Oh no, I wasn't taking it that way. Just saying that there is something different about Minecraft multiplayer compared to other multiplayer games in that we don't schedule when we're going to play. CoolCly said it better than I did.

Minecraft multiplayer really is mostly just doing your own thing. Sometimes, you could go and explore, mine, build, whatever with a friend. Still, it is very much a "look what I built" kind of thing, but people do tend to build stuff close to each other, so you get cities and stuff over a long period of time. Not sure how much can happen over a session of a few hours. Just saying as someone whose had the experience of running a server for Board 8. That said, I don't know how Live works for something like Minecraft.
