Yeah, this game looks like something special. A lot of people are saying it borrows pretty liberally from Uncharted - if that's the case, I need to check out the Uncharted series. I do hope it features more open-ended gameplay (UC is known for its linearity, right?) and survival elements. Last year, it looked like an adventure/action/survival horror hybrid, which was enough for me to name it my game of the show. It seriously gave me MGS3 vibes.

i'm not sure i like what looks to be an incredibly liberal amount of QTEs because they are such shallow ways to add "gameplay" and because i don't see crystal dynamics being a developer that can innovate with them, but if everything else is amazing, i'll live.

i just hope it has those horror vibes throughout the game.

I'm a big Tomb Raider fan, and I'm not as excited as some are. It looks too much like Uncharted, and puts too much emphasis on Lara being hurt and injured all the time. This will probably be one of those games that bears no real resemblance to the series it takes its name from.

No way. Tomb Raider has been great for years. There isn't another series like it right now. Like I said in the tran topic, I like the general ideas--isolation, exploration, and survival--but that's not what I've seen from these trailers and last year's demo. Maybe CD is bad at conveying these things in trailers, but it's a lot of QTE, a lot of scripted events, and explosions. That's nice and all, just not what Tomb Raider should be, at least for me. I can see why people find it appealing, but it's not really what makes Tomb Raider great. It's what makes Uncharted great.

I think that doing trailers for that type of game suffers for the same reason as doing trailers for a stealth game (see Hitman,) trailers are meant to be exciting and get you hyped for a game, in the case of Hitman, showing a trailer where 47 goes for the Silent Assassin achievement is not gripping enough, and I feel that's probably the same thing here. As long as you aren't killing hundreds of enemies ala Nathan Drake, I feel they are on the right track. Keep in mind this is also supposed to be before she was a world renowned grave robber.

Yeah, it's clear she's not nearly as skilled and confident as she usually is, but I can't say I care for 'make sure she bleeds whenever she can' mentality that they're going with here. Just don't like the tone and atmosphere. It'd be cool if it was her against the island, but there seems to be some crazy ship crew infighting instead. Maybe they'll show something more substantial--more emphasis on exploring and problem solving, less on climbing and falling and scripted events--when they demo the game.

yeah, i am kind of sad at the fact that there are other people on the island. part of what i liked about old TR games is it's just her and the environment.

Looks way too much like Uncharted which I would have loved a year ago but I can see this game being cinematic heavy and lots and lots of slowly walking around injured.

Probably won't be as good as Uncharted or Max Payne 3, but it still looks pretty good. Although, I'd rather Crystal Dynamics work on a new Gex instead. That would be amazing

The first half of that trailer was described in a GameInformer article I read almost a year ago. Nice to see they keep pushing this back. It looks good, but I've never really played the old school TR games, though they seem like they would be my kind of thing.

Won't be as good as Tomb Raider 2 but it seems fun. I'm hyped.

The last Tomb Raider I played was Legend and I loved that one


this one seems okay but like people have said before I liked Tomb Raider because of the puzzles, environment and the isolation. Yeah Legend and other games had a few people in it but it was sparse and just a little action in between, this seems like it's a survival kind of thing. Could be good, but it isn't really Tomb Raider

I guess we'll see how it really is when it's out

I think there'll be plenty of isolation. This is actually the first time I've seen any other people in the game.

But yeah I prefer animals and such as enemies rather than humans in Tomb Raider. One of my few issues with 2 was Lara becoming a mass-murderer whereas 1 - or at least the remake of 1 - made killing a big deal. I guess the world has sort of moved past that though.

I've never played a TR game, and I'm honestly not sure if I should before this one hits. It's a re-imagining of the series, so Lara is a blank slate character for me. Might be better to keep it that way?

I'd recommend any gamer plays Tomb Raider 2 but that could just be my nostalgia or whatever.

Legend is a fun, if short, game, and Anniversary kind of makes Tomb Raider 1 obsolete. Underworld's "OK" but has a lot of flaws.

Looks awesome. I really enjoyed all three of their previous Tomb Raider games too, very cool stuff.

The Uncharted references in this topic are a bit random to me, oddly enough I'd say some of the modern action Resident Evil games were probably more of an influence. Plus Uncharted is Dude Raider, it's like, people saying this is just Uncharted don't remember history past a few years ago. =P

Definitely looks cool, though it could be lacking the very unique complex puzzles and platforming stuff that Tomb Raider often brings to the table, hopefully there's more of that we're not seeing.

But hey, even if this game is a diversion from the formula, looks like a very entertaining game in it's own right.

Oh hey a release date right on, March 5th 2013. I remember Tomb Raider was doing well in a 2012 games topic recently, looks like this year could be a bit light.
