I don't really play the genre, so like I'm kinda interested to see what people consider to be the top shooters of this gen and like what makes each of em unique or different from the rest.
I mean I have a few pals who think all fighting games are the same when they're not.
Also what FPS games are you looking forward to? Right now on TV I see an Ad for Ghost Recon and I've seen plenty of Black Ops II ads.
1. Fallout: New Vegas 2. Deus Ex: Human Revolution 3. Fallout 3 4. Bioshock 5. Call of Duty 4 6. Borderlands
Not that big on multiplayer shooters, and I don't have a PS3/Gaming quality PC, so my list is pretty limited. There's some other stuff that I enjoyed a little bit, but not really enough to put on a list (Battlefield 3, Fear.)
Oh, and really looking forward to Bioshock Infinite. Not much else as of yet.
I recommend CoD4, but I didn't play anymore after that.
Halo wise, I'd recommend all of them, although I have nostalgia filters on 1. Halo: Reach is actually a great start, since it takes place before 1. ODST can be safely skipped.
L4D2 is also great if you're okay with playing online. Same goes for TF2.
Bioshock is amazing. I never played 2.
Other than that, I'm drawing blanks.

I may laugh at my own jokes, but I don't dare laugh at SuperNiceDog!
1. Far Cry 2 2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 3. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 4. Halo 3 5. Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood 6. BioShock 7. Borderlands 8. Call of Duty: Black Ops 9. Team Fortress 2 10. The Darkness
1. Far Cry 2 2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 3. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 4. Halo 3 5. Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood 6. BioShock 7. Borderlands 8. Call of Duty: Black Ops 9. Team Fortress 2 10. The Darkness
Eww call of Juarez.
And RSV2, but not the first?
Other than that, all great games.

From: OctilIery | #015 And RSV2, but not the first? I just didn't include it for the sake of variety. I would probably put it either right before or after Borderlands. I also forgot about Metroid Prime 3, which I think I would put right after BioShock
Crap, I forgot about Dark Athena as well. New list, with more thought and not caring about variety:
1. Far Cry 2 2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 3. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 4. Halo 3 5. Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood 6. BioShock 7. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption 8. Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena 9. Borderlands 10. Rainbow Six Vegas
I didn't include Half-Life 2 because I didn't think that it was this gen. I don't feel like altering my list even more, so just know that it would make it on there
1. Fallout: New Vegas 2. Deus Ex: Human Revolution 3. Fallout 3 4. Bioshock 5. Call of Duty 4 6. Borderlands

I definitely wouldn't call FO3/NV or Deus Ex FPS' (Borderlands is kind of iffy too but I guess I can see it). Unless we're using the barebones definition of FPS.
Anyway, TF2 and HL2+Episodes are great answers here.

Fallout/NV I'll give you, maybe Deus Ex(there are other options besides shooting, but strictly going that route opens up so many problems in what is and isn't considered an FPS) but Borderlands is absolutely one, or at the least an FPS/RPG hybrid.
