the "declare war on the very next turn" thing for instance isn't really an issue for the rest of the series.

the only way this is a '10 year game' is if he played less than one turn a day, but yeah still pretty crazy. i've never really tinkered with civ postgames.

He specifically said he doesn't play it constantly. I imagine every couple weeks he comes back and plays a couple turns or something.

One turn at that point in the game would probably take about an hour, even if most of it is just waiting for the computer to move. I once had an endgame cold war scenario in Civ II and I would just leave the computer idle when it when it was the AI's turn.
