Snake would be better suited to a lead character role than any currently existing MGS character. If they want to create someone entirely new for that position, they could do that, but anyone else would be a weaker choice, probably.

So I guess this is a prequel because otherwise it would have to take place in like...the month after MGS4. <_<

Any time before MGS4 would be good. Ideally, it works on its own without being heavily connected to any other game. Less trying to work it into the existing story, more creating something unique that stands on its own, without trying to answer more questions no one needs.

Takes place before MGS4? It's such a pointless scenario that it's not mentioned at all in MGS4 or we already know the outcome more or less. Takes place after? Gotta retcon or shove it in within a month after the end.

Personally I'd rather it just not have Solid Snake. Give me that idea about playing as the Cobras during WWII, or give me Liquid Snake during his time in the Middle East.

MGS4 doesn't touch on everything that happened in Metal Gear, anyway. The best thing they could do is distance themselves from relying on the current story. Whether or not MGS4 mentions it is unimportant. What is important is that the story they do write is interesting and engaging on its own. For business reasons it'll be called MGS5, but dropping the number would go a long way.

Well I'm hyped.

But not too hyped yet because it really depends what role he plays. I would be interested particularly in an adolescent Snake. We've basically always gotten "experienced Snake" or "no Snake at all" (with the exception of the first Metal Gear game which hardly "counts") so I'd be interested to see new things done with him

Snake DID die at the end of MGS4. They said he had a few months left only. Yeah we didn't see it on camera, but it was confirmed to happen. That should've been good enough to end the series forever. You can't beat "this is good, isn't it?"

This won't even be directed by Kojima, because he clearly has been done with the series for the long time, so it will probably be a simplistic, soul-less, half-assed waste of time like Peace Walker.
