When I compiled this list, I was originally only going to include moments since my only championship in 2001, but I decided to include this for how significant it was, and how foreboding it was. If i were a bit older like MMX was, this would certainly rank higher on the list, but I only have faint memories of the game.
I think I remember being upset, or understanding why my dad was upset that Grbac was starting instead of Rich Gannon. (I would be reminded of this in in 06-07 when we started Green instead of Huard) I watched the game with my dad at the sports bar he worked at, in my Chiefs Sweater. Blablabla a bunch of crappy stuff happens
My only clear memory of this day was getting home, going to my room, throwing my sweater into the closet, crying into my bed, while saying
"I'm never going to see the Chiefs win a playoff game"
I'm about 95% sure I actually said that, and it was the last time i had a solid sad depressing cry about sports.

UNC losing in round 2 of the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament in 1994. I was 8. Puke went on to the finals that same year, but thankfully lost to Arkansas.

Bonus Question Biggest blowout loss in a game you were super hyped up for?
Game 7 of the 04 ALCS. Not only could we not avoid the biggest collapse, but we barely put up a fight. Pathetic display by that team and I hope those overpriced f***ers were ashamed of themselves.

I've never cried over a sports loss. I cried when we beat the Red Wings in 09 though. After doing my laps around the house I came in and collapsed on the floor and just cried in pure joy. It was f***ing amazing.

From: Dr_Football | #051 Last time you cried over a sports loss? I'm not sure I've ever cried over a sports loss, even as a little kid. If I did, I can't remember it.
I remember crying as a kid when the Red Wings were eliminated from the 1993 NHL playoffs in an overtime game. How embarrassing, losing to the Maple Leafs.

We for the first time all year suck in the red zone and lose. This ranks where it is because I was pretty calm throughout the game and was prepared for the loss much better than others on this list. The only think Im angry about from this game is a Sportscenter package that was going through the past few SEC National Champs, and they said Florida dominated OU. I'd like to think we weren't dominated since it was ****ing tied in the 4th quarter, but I digress.
This is the first loss on the list that I am somewhat repeatedly reminded of, whenever someone runs the Tebow motivational speech. There will be a couple more of those on the list >_<
Also, lol Texas, and I'm going to be the only person who misses the BCS
Specific Bonus Question Most depressing loss against Tebow?
Texas was the better team and your WORTHLESS team had absolutely no right to play in that game. Thanks ****ers for ruining what should have been one of the Best National Title games in recent memory.
From: Dr_Football | #063 Most depressing loss against Tebow? Losing to Florida in Kiffin's only season as coach and watching him clearly coach the team not to get blown out instead of coaching to win. Never liked the guy after that game.
Easily Florida vs. Ohio State in 2007. OSU's probably #3 on my football team favorites list, and to see them get torched by the worst state in the country in both football AND basketball was pretty depressing.

Getting really tough to rank these now, 3-8 could probably ranked differently depending how I feel that particular day.
For those not in the know, the Rangers I think were underrated when discussing the worst sports franchises in the Big 4. Started as the Washington Senators in 1961, it took until 1996 for the Rangers to make the playoffs, where they would win Game 1 in Yankee Stadium, then promptly lose the next three. In 98 and 99, they would be swept by the same New York Yankees. It took until year 50 for the Rangers to finally win a playoff series, and they did it on the back of Cliff Lee in the Divisional Round.
And then, we finally conquered our demons and beat the Yankees. Along the way we also won our first ever home playoff game, having lost our first 7 attempts. Striking out A-Rod looking to win the pennant is about as sweet as it gets.
We were considered the favorite against the Giants, a franchise who liked to use the motto Torture. Well they tortured us for 5 games, made Cliff Lee look human, and just pretty much shut our offense down. Plus we all had to witness Vlad playing in the outfield, which no one should have had to see.
I was pretty upset at the time, but just winning a playoff series really softened the blow, and I was pretty proud of our guys. And hey, we would probably be better the next year, and have that all important playoff experience to help us out in clutch situations ..

Probably the 2006 World Series. It was great to finally see the Tigers in the playoffs, and fans were just glad they finally made it back there. Winning two series on top of that was nice, especially since one of them was shutting down the Yankees. Sucked that they blew the World Series to an equally unexpected Cards team.

Now, that final score would make sense if that was a football game...but this was a Division 1 basketball game. Not only did Illinois lose, but this game was just miserable to watch and poorly played on both sides, from what I recall.
Also of note: Illinois attempted no free throws the entire game. Not due to bad officiating either, they just sucked that bad.

Bonus question: 1991 Braves, probably since the World Series against the Twins is the first major sporting event that I have clear memories of, and it was one of the best WSes ever.

2001 World Series. Still the best postseason in sports history.

Whats your most depressing sporting event that you witnessed live?
Ohio State, 70, Purdue, 66. Purdue had racked up a massive lead in the first half (and Robbie Hummel had eight 3s, IIRC), and was up by about ten with four minutes to go, then choked it all away.
Most depressing or crushing loss in a sport you don't usually care about?
Probably the Steve Bartman game.
Worst loss in a game or series you were 100% sure you were going to win?
Definitely Colts/Steelers AFC Divisional Playoffs in 2006. That idiot kicker.
Biggest blowout loss in a game you were super hyped up for?
1995 Eastern Conference Finals, Game 7. The Pacers were up against the Magic and never stood a chance, I was crying all through the fourth quarter of that one.
Last time you cried over a sports loss?
When the Pacers lost to the Hawks in Game 5 of the first round of the 1996 playoffs. The Pacers were the only team to beat the Bulls twice that year and I was really hoping we'd get a shot at shocking the world, but we didn't even get out of the first round.
Biggest postseason loss by your team that you still remember that season and team fondly for making it as far as they did? (Kinda wordy)
Ehhhh....probably the 2000 NBA Finals where the Pacers almost took the Lakers to seven. It was the only time we made the finals and we gave the Lakers the best series out of the three teams they beat over that threepeat.

My first and only Jets game in person. A boring, crappy, horribly officiated game against the Packers 2 years ago, where neither team scored a touchdown and the Jets lost like 9-0.

USA/Canada Gold Medal game in the 2010 Olympics. Almost made me into a hockey fan.

Biggest postseason loss by your team that you still remember that season and team fondly for making it as far as they did?
Without a doubt the 2003 Carolina Panthers. They were already getting ripped by haters on the Sports board and a few butthurt Bucs fans where I live during the regular season. Then the playoffs came around and the Panthers shredded Dallas in round 1 and stunned the Rams in the divisional round, followed by shutting down Filthadelphia's offense in the NFC championship. (even then, the Sports board was still complaining, but w/e at this point)
And then the Superbowl happened. Carolina played their hearts out (and imo, played better against the Pats than the Eagles and Rams did) and truly had that never-give-up mentality from kickoff to the game's end. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if John Kasay's final kickoff didn't go out of bounds, or if Carolina had gone for extra point kicks instead of 2 point conversions, but what's done is done.
(Hopefully with Cam Newton and the sweet lineup Carolina got from the draft this year, maybe we can go back and finish the job! Here's to hoping)

And hey, lets do this Leon style and add a question at the end
Whats your most depressing sporting event that you witnessed live?
It was my high school soccer team's regional final senior year. It sucked because 3 of the top 5 perennial powerhouses in the state came out of our region, and only one could go to state. We had 11 seniors that year who had all played soccer together basically since the age of 4.
We were down 2-0 in the first 15 minutes, and it stayed that way until half. Immediately in the second half they made it 3-0, which was awesome. We scored with 8 minutes left, and again at 3, and had a guy punt it down the field directly into a header that went right into the upper right corner literally seconds before time. The game ended up going into PKs, which our team hadn't lost at in 4 years, and we missed every shot.
It was pretty heartbreaking.
Plus like 4 of our players suffered injuries in the process.
Edit: Oh, and I guess I should add for effect that we weren't one of the powerhouse teams. We just had one really glorious year.

Pretty sure Warner broke his own record a few years later in Patriots/Rams, too.

"Why must we always choose between certain death and probable death?" "I'm in an epic battle to the death, FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF!"
If you don't remember, the Chiefs started 9-0 this year. This was the year Priest Holmes won every fantasy league. The year Dante Hall was absolutely ridiculous, with 4 consecutive games with a return TD, most famously the 93 yard punt return against Denver (with a little help from an impressive double block in the back >_>) Then we screw it up and go 4-3 in the final 7 games and blow the #1 seed, and play the Colts in the Divisional Round.
This would famously be the first puntless game in NFL history, as we could do absolutely nothing to stop them. My dad and I are pained to this day by the two plays that cost us the game essentially. Morten Andersen missing a 31 yard field goal, and Holmes fumbling on the 2nd play of the 2nd half.
I really don't remember how I reacted, but I assume it wasn't pleasant. This kinda continues the pattern that the Rangers had in that they continuously lose to the same team in the Playoffs, with the Chiefs having lost to the Colts 3 times out of 4 trips in a 12 year period.
