This is interesting news. While I'd love to jump to the conclusion that this improves Lloyd/Zelos/Kratos' chances (and it does), the real news here is that Pac-Man is pretty much a lock now.

From: Erugios | #014 Didn't Game Arts work on Brawl? This isn't too unusual.
Apparently one of the directors of Gundam Extreme Vs is working on this game. Game Arts, Hudson Soft, Monolith Soft. A bunch of developers. I hope that holds true for Smash 4, and it isn't just Namco Bandai. I'm sure it will, really.

From: McBonesII | #010 What ever happened of that Tales of SSB ripoff? did that come out well? It was Japanese only sadly
I played it, it was pretty fun though the CPU can be cheap and there wasn't an option to turn off time limit and heck the highest time option you have is 4 minutes

In order to make Mr. Sakurai proud, we will take on this project with NAMCO BANDAI's best staff! Yos***o (bad word) Higuchi, the producer and the director of the "Tales" series, Tetsuya Akatsuka, producer and director of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs.," the art director/sound director of the "SoulCalibur" series, the main development team staff from the "TEKKEN" series and that's just for starters. All the top creators from NAMCO BANDAI are gathered here to create a never-before-seen dream team for this project. We will fully utilize our experience and knowledge in action/fighting game development, technical capability, and organizational strength, and we hereby promise you that we will develop the best and most powerful "Super Smash Bros." title ever! Don't miss it!

Brawl is like ZSS' breasts. Well rounded for casual players http://ib.skaia.net/image/32143.gif

Pac-Man's a virtual lock, but I could see Lloyd being a second Namco rep. I mean, Tales of Symphonia was the GameCube's main third-party game... that wasn't named "Resident Evil 4," anyway. The influence it had on the Nintendo community was huge; so, Nintendo would probably be eager to get Lloyd in Smash.
Really though, Namco's involvement here opens up several other awesome possibilities. We could even see someone truly crazy, like Mr. Driller or Mappy; the former's been surprisingly prolific over the past decade or so, and Japanese audiences go apes*** for the latter. Personally, I'd love to see Dr. Don and Dr. Dan from Point Blank, but I know that won't happen. >_>
Oh hey, I just remembered Klonoa. He could make it too.
