I feel like I might as well start now. Gimme a list of all Gundam series and Movies I should watch in chronological order.
I was planning on doing it eventually, but not sure when and where to start so yeah i don't care if the series are bad in fact it might be a good thing since it'll make the good series stick out even more.
So from w/e the starting point is to now, I should watch em in what order?
Well, Only the UC stuff needs to be watched in order.
Its arguable whether watching the side-stuff in order is necessary but for the sake of completeness here goes a complete chronological listing:
All are TV series unless stated otherwise 0079- Mobile Suit Gundam (TV series or Movie Trilogy, both are good, but cover the same plot) -Side-stuff Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket (OVA) Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team (OVA)(has a side story one hour movie) Mobile Suite Gundam IGLOO and IGLOO2 (OVA)(skippable) Mobile Suite Gundam 0083 (OVA) (has a significantly less interesting compilation movie) -/end sidestuff Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (TV Series, dont watch the movies) Mobile Suit Zeta Zeta Gundam Char's Counter-Attack Mobile Suit Unicorn Gundam (still airing, 1 hour OVAs) *gap* Mobile Suit F91 Gundam (Movie) (This has a sequel manga series if you like it a lot called Mobile Suit Crossbones Gundam) *gap* Mobile Suit Victory Gundam
The other series, in roughly order of release:
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (with Endless Waltz OVAs and Movies which have a different plot with the same premise) Mobile Fighter G Gundam After War Gundam X Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (2 seasons) Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Turn A Gundam Mobile Suit Gundam AGE (currently airing)
I may have missed one or two and I didnt include the SD stuff, but thats roughly it.

Also, I recommend production order over chronological order, personally. Recently watched the entire franchise myself and fell in love with it. I think all of them are at least worth one watch. Beware Destiny though

I can't really say I'm the biggest Gundam fan ever, but it'd be a crime to not watch G Gundam. It doesn't really match the rest of the series at all, but it's by far my favorite. Other than that the only non-UC thing I'd really say is a must-watch is Wing, but I'm probably ignorant of at least one or two others that are probably worth it.
Wing's pretty good and gets anti-voted worse than FFVII these days for being something "you only suggested because it's mainstream, ass!" but I wouldn't put it up there with a few of the other shows.
It's definitely good though. But man, it drags.

Yeah, Wing does have some points that are kinda "okay, let's see something happen." I don't think I'd do too well to rewatch it after all of these years, but I have fond memories of it, so whatever.

Can't say I agree with this, to be honest. Wing is good but not great. Episode 30-40 is BRUTAL to get through. Treize is a top tier character, but Zechs is a pretty forgettable Char Clone.
There are definitely better AUs, most notable of which is Turn A (though opinion IS divided on it. I'll be the first to admit that while it is an amazing show, it's not a very good GUNDAM show. Watch it and you'll understand what I mean by that). 00 is pretty interesting as well since it has a very distinct post-9/11 feel to it. And honestly, I've been enjoying AGE a lot.
Really, the only AU I can't recommend is Seed and Seed Destiny. For some reason its the most popular Gundam series in Japan, but man they're pretty bad.

Really, the only AU I can't recommend is Seed and Seed Destiny. For some reason its the most popular Gundam series in Japan, but man they're pretty bad. Its a modern take on Gundam. In a world where the majority of wars have a major guerilla component, WING has a more relevant structure than earlier gundams in terms of HOW its war is fought.
And yeah AGE has been trending upwards on my Gundam list, currently just behind the original, F91, Unicorn, Zeta, and 0083. Just ahead of Wing.

I've heard mixed things about AGE, what do you like about it? Is the premise/structure similar to any of the series?
the premise is similar to Crossbones... >_>. Structurally though, it's pretty unique. They've essentially condensed 3 shows down to 1 show, so it feels a bit rushed at times. the 3rd gen has been pretty great though.
As for what I like about it, I'd say my favorite thing is probably Flit, the protagonist from Gen 1. He's developed into a pretty interesting character and they're doing stuff with him that they've never done with a protagonist in the franchise before. Don't want to spoil anything though.

Everything big, yet kinda small scale so far. Though by now I've figured that no one should ever want to live in this universe.
Also Earth Fed army uniforms look cool, though they give off a german vibe.
Try to keep this in mind: First Gundam isn't so much about the One Year War itself, but about the experiences of the crew of White Base during the War. You rarely see whats going on outside of what the crew is dealing with themselves. Not to mention, the show takes place towards the end of the war anyway, so most of the bigger battles in the war (Operation British, Loum) have already taken place, so they're just alluded to.
And yeah, it'd probably suck to live in Universal Century. It's probably my favorite setting, but boy oh boy did things go wrong for humanity in that timeline.

I honestly would have vastly preferred you watched the three movies instead of the series; they were made a few years later and that's when Gundam really got hot in Japan. More importantly (by far, in a world where they love SEED) the pacing is much better (although they're still kind of a slog, but anyway, the third is amazing) and they cut out a lot of the weird, silly "Japan, 1979" filler.

A lot of people recommend that, and I guess I can see some of the validity if you can't get into the show, but I personally loved every second of the original series and thought the pacing was great as is. Plus, if you're watching it dubbed, the movie dub is terrible, while the tv series is excellently dubbed. Brad Swaille and Michael Kopsa make an excellent Amuro and Char.
Plus the TV soundtrack > Movie soundtrack. Not a big fan of the movie arrangements and new songs. That said, Ai Senshi and Encounters are both fantastic songs

I wasn't a big fan of mecha either before I watched Gundam (in september). Like you i was in it for the characters and story (and music. I love First Gundam's soundtrack).
However, you eventually come to appreciate the designss don't worry about amuro though. He becomes awesoem

These previews for the next eps do seem a lil spoilery, but w/e.
I've noticed this in a lot of anime I've watched, which actually isn't much.
Anyway I don't have much Gundam experience but I've liked what I've seen. I saw most of the original series on Toonami but they cut it off early, and it was probably my least favorite series. I loved G Gundam, Wing, and 08th MS Team. War in the Pocket was pretty good too. I want to get back into Gundam but I don't have much free time. If I do it will probably be 00.
