And yeah AGE has been trending upwards on my Gundam list, currently just behind the original, F91, Unicorn, Zeta, and 0083. Just ahead of Wing.

I've heard mixed things about AGE, what do you like about it? Is the premise/structure similar to any of the series?

yes. it's pretty decent though there's a lame 3 ep arc right near the start.

Yeah the biggest complaints when people start with the original TV series are: "It gets pretty slow in the middle." and "I wish more episodes had Char". Are you going with Zeta next in production order or are you going chronological? Zeta is my favorite Gundam TV series, but I understand it has a few vocal detractors on the internet.

The original, 0080 and 08th MS team and IGLOO all occur simultaneously. the only reason its called 0080 is to match the naming scheme for 0083 and to differentiate from the original.

Actually IGLOO may take place before all of those other shows but only by a few months.

I still think you should go production order rather than chronological. but whatever.

Gundam movie trilogy, the full Zeta tv series, and Char's Counterattack is my fav Gundam stuff. Eeeexcellent.

Avoid the Zeta movie trilogy. New animation clashes with the old animation. The pacing sucks and they cut out some of the most important scenes from the series. The ending isn't bad but I prefer the original.

Also they let Gackt sing the theme songs and I hate Gackt

Well, you these Newtypes got introduced late and I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of em in future series..

The full concept was introduced late, but there are hints throughout.

Keep in mind that the show was cancelled. There were supposed to be 10 or so more episodes but Sunrise wanted to can it at episode 39. they were able to negotiate for a few more episodes to wrap things up. Plot outlines of the intended final arc of the story would have had Amuro dealing with several newtypes.

But yeah, the concept becomes pretty key to the rest of the UC timeline

It might seem like it right now, but it's not really an adequate comparison. Just because a person is a newtype doesn't necessarily make them a good pilot. There are certain elements of being a Newtype that definitely help in that area, such as their enhanced reflexes and spatial awareness. Stronger Newtypes can use psycommu weapons as well. but there are plenty of good pilots who aren't newtypes, even later on.

And in any case, there are plenty of newtypes that flat out SUCK at piloting. For example, Sayla. Her ride in the Gundam was flat out embarassing >_>

I love Gackt, but I agree the Zeta TV show is the best ever.

Suffers fro mthe fact that everything it does well has basically been improved on by later animes and those that deconstruct/reconstruct it.

Couple of neat ideas, totally something you'd play in a playground.

I just didn't like Amuro and his haircut, at least Spinzaku's hair is kinda cool.

Other than that it was fine.

If you hated Amuro's haircut, you'd REALLY hate the hero of Ideon's hair.



As for Amuro, yeah I could see why you wouldn't like him. I'm not entirely sure you're supposed to, especially initially. He's whiny, selfish, misogynistic, arrogant and pretty neurotic. That said, he's probably my favorite anime protagonist (Char being my favorite antagonist). The show never glorifies his negative attitudes (unlike other characters like Kira). There is a marked improvement in his attitude around the time they're at Odessa in which he finally starts to grow up (which is mirrored by the fact that around that time that is when he goes from being great with the Gundam, to simply being an indestructible beast). However, as you'll see in Zeta Gundam and Char's Counterattack, maturity doesn't necessarily mean you become some wise person. He always keeps some of his negative traits, they're just tempered more.

So yeah, he's a dick. But I love him.

after 3 eps

Guerillas, not the best first impression, main character has cool haircut so gets +++ points.

Jungle looks humid. I got the choice between Dub/90s Sub/remastered Audio.

Given the animation, i went with crappy audio, super nice sound is too awkward with dated animation.
