The Deep Web (also called the Deepnet, the Invisible Web, the Undernet or the hidden Web) refers to World Wide Web content that is not part of the Surface Web, which is indexable by standard search engines.
It should not be confused with the dark Internet, the computers that can no longer be reached via Internet, or with the distributed filesharing network Darknet, which could be classified as a smaller part of the Deep Web.
Mike Bergman, founder of BrightPlanet,[1] credited with coining the phrase,[2] has said that searching on the Internet today can be compared to dragging a net across the surface of the ocean: a great deal may be caught in the net, but there is a wealth of information that is deep and therefore missed. Most of the Web's information is buried far down on dynamically generated sites, and standard search engines do not find it. Traditional search engines cannot "see" or retrieve content in the deep Webthose pages do not exist until they are created dynamically as the result of a specific search. The deep Web is several orders of magnitude larger than the surface Web. Contains around 90% of the internet.
Gots lots of illegal things in it (drugs, CP, hitmen, etc). Pretty amusing to look through

Personally I'm kinda confused as to why "Hardcore Celebrity Pornography" is listed below "Cannibal Communities" and "Snuff" among other things... Seems just a tad out of place...

The reputations of celebrities are more valuable than the lives of us peasants. (But why they filmed pornography in the first place, I couldn't say.)

They probably did it for money in their early careers. Wouldn't be surprising.
I don't know about that image, though. I know there's stuff you need TOR for, but I'm not sure all the stuff listed in that image exists, and almost certainly not in that specific order of secrecy.

Not all of us are computer science majors. What is TOR?

Man, I had an idea for a book called Undernet about an underground online society being set up after a united world government censored the actual internet to death. Didn't know that was actually another name for the Deepnet, I guess I need another name now. >_>
