Out of all of these Wine is like the best one I'd say at cheap levels, but Vodka scales very well in terms of cost. Beer is a safe pick if you want something that will last more than a sip without set up time while spending minimal money, as long as you don't buy like bottom shelf stuff.

My favorite mixed drink is a simple highball, but I also like a good whiskey and coke (Crown is my preferred whiskey for mixing). My favorite "frou frou" drink is a Royal Flush, which is Crown Royal, peach schnapps, raspberry liquer and cranberry juice.

are you asking if Yamazaki is worth it? Yeah, it is. They have some crazy sherry cask stuff that's like a thousand bucks and all that nonsense but their base single malt is in the $60-70 range and I think it's divine.

gin for special occasions

yamazaki's totally not worth it. hibiki is generally cheaper and i'd say hibiki 17 is just somewhat overpriced to yamazaki's anything. the 12 year yamazaki is priced at the 15-17 of many others, yamazaki 18 is just stupid priced and nevermind 21. spend the extra $20 for a good 17-18 year (e.g., Glengoyle), maybe split the cost with a $60 bottle of something else that's good. hell, if you're a huge fan of peat, ardbeg's offerings at either range will be better.

if you spend anything on japanese scotch, hibiki 17 is easily my recommendation. priced higher than most but blows most scotch out the water with ease, including things like blue label (which is also overpriced but at least you know that's partially due to branding). the 12 or the one that's mixed are viable too but they're a notable step down and honestly more in line with yamazaki 12.

that being said, wine nights are amazing, especially because it gets people out that don't normally drink

vodka is the best (neutral taste) for mixing, whiskey is what i drink on ice when i want to get drunk, but really all hard alcohol just comes down to quality and how much you're willing to pay for it

beer's all right for social events where i want to pretend not to be an alcoholic. there are so many go d damn varieties readily available, so it's interesting to learn about more without breaking the bank
