Basically they findthat upon informing people of the details of the AHCA (presumably a Dem biased explanation, but given how bad the bill is I doubt they had to spin much) they were able to decrease net approval by 33% (36% in districts Trump won!), even though uninformed approval of the bill was already pretty bad. They then further found that for districts with a Republican incumbent, this decreased those same people's support for reelecting them against a generic Dem challenger by a net of 13(!) points.

This spin isn't going to work very well. They promised to repeal Obamacare for 7 years. Voters know how hard it is to repeal structures like this, and were afraid this would happen. Now they gave Republicans control of 3 branches of government, and it still does not get repealed.

This feels like they are just giving up, especially when Trump proclaims premiums will skyrocket this year. Why wait until after that's happened to try again? Why not keep trying for a healthcare deal now?

I'm not sure if voters will feel more anger or despair, but either one would tend to keep them at home in coming elections. But there are other issues and Trump has heretofore been invincible, so maybe it'll blow over.

I always felt uneasy about his commitment to repeal Obamacare. "Repeal and replace" sounded highly questionable because it implies no repeal without replacement, and that gives a big out to keep Obamacare. Just claim you couldn't pass a good replacement. You don't even need to try particularly hard to design a good replacement.

I dunno what voters who really want Obamacare gone are supposed to do now, though, other than primary every Republican who isn't in the HFC. Maybe primary every Democrat who won't stand up for universal healthcare.

Charity care. It works well here in NJ. I'd love to see it used in every state.

That only works because not that many people use it (and in fact the government reimburses some of the cost to hospitals). If you switched to having 10-20% of people relying on it it would collapse (unless, of course, you had the government actually raise taxes a substantial amount in order to offer something like Medicare for all).
