Yeah this is the biggest headscratcher for me. I'm a musician. I know s***tons about music that I wouldn't expect ordinary people to know because it's not relevant to their lives or their careers. The president is the head of government. It is reasonable to expect him to know how the government works, because running it is his f***ing job. In what other field is a complete lack of knowledge of how things work considered a virtue, or at least excusable?

NATO obligations aside, most of them still owe us for World War I debt which they defaulted on in the 1930s. After 80 years of no payments, the interest should add up to a lot.

Hmm, I found a Chicago Tribune article from 1966, which states that the total WWI debt owed to the US as of 1965 was $20,691,309,517. I'm not sure what the interest rates were, but supposing an average interest rate of 4%, that comes out to north of $159 billion. Which is sizable, but not as astronomical as you might expect from 80 years of compound interest after the last payment. I guess the US really shortchanged itself by allowing the inflation rate to be so high in the 70s, as far as the value of WWI debt goes.

From what I read in the Chicago Tribune article, in 1932 the nations stopped paying and the US granted a moratorium on the payments (under duress) until the question of German reparations was settled. Germany had Hitler in power, who refused to pay reparations, and then it was divided into 2 countries, so the issue of the WWI reparations couldn't be fully addressed. After 1990, Germany finally reunified, and has settled the issue of the reparations. It's time for the European nations to pay up IMO.

It's more personal so maybe I shouldn't ask, but if he has all these weekends free as President AND doesn't visit his wife during any of these times...I've been questioning his priorities for awhile now, but that seems weird.
