#HangAyazNizami was trending in Pakistan yesterday. Seriously, look up HangAyazNizami on Facebook or Twitter. It's ridiculous. Mainstream opinion in the 6th most populous country on Earth is that saying mean things about Islam should be a capital offense.

Well, what's most amusing about some Muslims behavior is that Islam is touted as 'rahmatan lil alamin', meaning blessing for the whole world (i.e. not only for believers), which is just hard to imagine in current days.

Also there are a lot of people saying something to the effect of:

There is a vast difference in circumstances between developed and developing nations. High population =/= developed country. China and India, global superpowers now, are they themselves only newly industrialized countries that still hold a great many human rights violations. Yes there are horrible things happening in the name of religion, but trying to paint this as a "barbaric muslim culture" thing is simply disgusting. When you think of Buddhists, you actually do think of peaceful people that avoid fighting, yes? Go read up on what's been going on in Burma/Myanmar and the killings and rapes of their Muslim population.

If you're going to discuss international news you need a global understanding of what's going on, otherwise anything you say is purely reductionist garbaged based on headlines with no background.

That's a false equivalency. #killallmen wasn't a serious call for the murder of all men. And I probably would've called out #killallmen if I were aware of it trending when it was trending because of the hilarious double standard that makes sexism and racism against "privileged" groups totally okay. But these people are unironically calling for capital punishment for memes, and invoking the anti-blasphemy law of the second largest majority Muslim country on Earth.

I worked with a Muslim dude originally from Pakistan a bunch of years ago. He was sketchy as f*** but he'd sometimes bring beer or scotch for after closing and would share with me, so he was cool with me.

My dad was visiting my city awhile ago and he saw a poster saying Justin Trudeau was coming to town.

He said "I should have brought my gun."


People say really stupid death threats all the time against people they don't like for some reason. I really don't understand why anyone thinks it's okay.

If they might actually hang this guy for running a meme page, that's extremely f***ed up. But is that the case, or is this just people saying "kill that person i don't agree with" like always?
