Though generally one of the defining characteristic of millennials are all the side effects that came from being raised in a world of internet, computers and smartphones. To be fair, most of the generation classifications are kind of bullshit anyway, since there really isn't an official standard of measure for when one definitively ends and another begins. Add to that the fact that, in recent times, the various cultural generation gaps shift a hell of a lot faster than every 30 years or so (the older standard of measure), and you've basically got people with radically different world-views all getting lumped into the same demographic. Realistically, I've always tended to separate original flavor "Gen Y" and the newer "Millennials" term into two separate groups, with the Gen Y kids being the ones born in the late 70s/early 80s and the Millennials being the ones born in the late 80s/early 90s.
